Do I need a wedding decorator?

Rach, on October 9, 2013 at 10:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I have 4 bridesmaids who are all very creative and I already pretty much know exactly what I want. I have already bought most of what I'll need and the rest will be DIY. Do I need a wedding decorator? What all do they do? Do they put up/take down decorations or just give you the ideas? Also, how much do they typically charge? I know what flowers I want and that's pretty much all I'm missing, but my mom is scared that without professional help, it won't look good enough. What do you think??

I've never heard of a wedding decorator. Is that like a Day of Coordinator? I didn't have one and everything worked out just fine.

What kind of decorations are you thinking of?

My florist is taking care of the centerpieces and setting up the reception and ceremony site, cake and sweetheart table and will also take down as well. My venue already has uplighting and some drapery and Christmas lights as decorations so there's nothing more that I need to add.

I think you seem to know what you want. There may be someone at your venue who will help you with this. My venue is taking everything from me on Friday morning and decorating it all--I didn't know this, however, until I asked. If they don't, maybe just try practicing your decorations at home to ensure you can make them look the way you want. Your florist will also help with this--they have all kinds of tips to help make everything look how you want. Good luck!

I am looking at a venue that does it all, but if I choose a smaller and cheaper venue like the local VFW I would enlist all my wedding party, brothers, and nieces and nephews who are teenagers to help. I have helped at a friends wedding and it is actually fun!

I think you'll be fine without one unless you just have extra money and don't want to be doing stuff yourself and worrying a lot the day before and day off. They basically take care of the details so you don't have to stress.

I am doing a rustic-themed wedding. White table clothes, burlap table runner, centerpieces: slice of red cedar in the middle of the table, mason jars with twine tied around the lip, and babies breath inside. That's the gist of it, but I also know what I want as far as the ceremony decor, too. I guess I am trying to figure out who will put up and take down, but between my mom, BMs, and the florist I believe we can get it done. I just want to make sure I have all be bases covered. Thanks, guys!

Find out how much one cost and let your mom pick up the tab, it seems like you are fine with the way things are going.

    Good luck with your Mom.
