Do all wedding dresses feel cheap? Or is it just me?

Jiliane, on October 19, 2019 at 7:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30
I’ve gone to two different bridal salons (DB being one of them) and it seemed like every dress I put on felt itchy or cheap. Is it just me? Am I being too judge-y? I know I’m only going to wear it for one day, but I feel like I should at least be somewhat comfortable.

DB dresses felt cheap to me once I tried on dresses at a boutique salon. I ended up with a Maggie Sottero, and I loved the quality of it.

I agree with Hannah. Daughter's dress was a Maggie Sottero dress, and it was gorgeous and soft. I'd keep looking.

The first dress I got at DB didn't feel cheap to me it was $800. But after all the excitement wore off and the dress came back I looked at it and was like this is cheap. It looks cheap, feels cheap but it's $800 ugghhh. I convinced them to let me return it. I found a dress that I loved in DB. Then when I asked how much it was, it was $1800. I definitely didn't want to spend that much. But it was too late. I was in love and I could definitely tell the difference between the quality of the two dresses

Agree with everyone else, quality comes with a price. I have an Eddy K gown and even the tulle is super soft.

Ok girl you are not wrong and definitely not crazy!!! I had the same experience at one salon I went to. Needless to say I didn't get my dress there. I think some designers or some places just have dresses that look/feel cheap. If it doesn't feel the way you want, go somewhere else! I promise there's dresses out there that are great quality that won't feel that way.

DB typically has cheap bridal dresses. Try other bridal salons.

And try different fabric and colors. I ended up with a white lace on nude sheer top, ivory skirt. All white dresses seemed too stark and almost a cheap quality. I felt that way about satin. But it’s all personal preference and what looks best on your skin type.

There are definitely some “cheap” dresses made from lower quality fabrics... and David’s Bridal falls right into that category (never been a fan). Instead go for a higher end bridal shop or designer.

Thanks guys! I’m going with my “boo crew” to look at some dresses next weekend. I picked three salons that have different designers to hopefully see a bigger spectrum of quality and design.

In my opinion, the smaller, more local stores have better quality dresses than places like DB. I got my Morilee dress from a boutique where I live, and I am in love! $1300. It was one of the best days of my life tbh because almost every dress made me feel like a princess. Mainly because they FELT amazing. Like the structure was great, material was gorgeous. And nothing in the store was more expensive than $3000. So try one of the cute lil shops! You may be surprised.

It must be the dresses you are trying on because I got mine from DB and it was very comfortable.

Nope, not crazy. Honestly my dress from the Wish app seemed to be better quality and better put together than the dresses I tried on in multiple boutiques including DB.

Dont settle! They aren't all that way. I've tried on $800 dresses and $1500 dresses and none of them felt cheap to me. Depends on the salon, and more importantly the brands/designers. But my Stella York dress feels lovely!

Agreed! I bought my dress from a local boutique and I had phenomenal service (I left calling my stylist my dress angel...) and all the dresses were stunning and really great quality for the price. I'd never do it any other way.

I went with a custom made dress which actually turned out to be a lot less then the dress I tried on and inspired the look of my dress on. And it was lot better quality. However, this isn’t to say you can’t find a great dress at David’s bridal, but a lot of it could be that they have been tried on a so many times. Although I feel like I found better dresses at some of the local dress shops. My maid of honer did get her dress from David’s and it is beautiful!

My dress was very soft and comfortable but it was also originally $1600
Bigger price equals better quality in most cases. However, if you know where to shop, you can get a really good deal.

Not crazy, I tried on dresses at DB and two other bridal shops. One of the bridal shops was noticeably better quality and it really wasn’t even close. I ended up getting my dress (Stella York) from that salon.

If you have shapewear underneath this might help not feel the itch?

I went to sample stores, smaller salons, and DB’s. Really hated DB’s because the dresses were blah. I think it was too much satin. Satin is too shiny for me. And I wanted no white. I like Maggie dresses but I’m plus size and not all hers comes to my size. I bought a Stella York (about $300 more than I thought I wanted to spend but I loved it). It’s pink - moscato is the name - with lots of tulle. And no satin!!

My dress does not! I went to a small, exclusive, local boutique. The dresses started at $900.00 and went over $5000.00. It was a private showing and I only went to one shop, one day. As others have mentioned, local boutique's are wonderful!! Hope you find the gown of your dreams!!
