Do all the bridesmaid dresses need to be bought at the same time from the same store?

soon to be..., on September 23, 2009 at 7:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Hi all--- I heard that unless you're going with a chain like J. Crew or David's Bridal, you're supposed to order all the dresses from the same store at the same time to avoid slight differences in color between dye lots. Is that true? Or is that just what the store is telling me to get me to buy all the dresses there? THANKS!!!!

I hope not, since the 4 ladies I am having live in 3 different states. I would think that if your picking a simple one it should be ok. Don't they have an order book at most places? I am giving mine girls the number and location for them, or they can just order it .. mine are alfred angelo seperates.

Do we as the bride and groom pay for them or what? do you happen to know that?

The BM's normally pay for their own dresses but some brides pay for them. I think if the style of the dresses don't matter too much, no then, they can get them at different stores, you could let them know what color choice you have though, send them a sample Smiley smile

I have officiated at many weddings where the bridesmaids wore the same color scheme and it looked fantastic! Not too cookie-cutter like! In the Fall, I've seen shades of chocolate running to taupe. The same with pinks, blues . . . anything to match your theme. And the style does not matter as long as the colors coordinate. Actually, it looks quite nice to see a different style dress on each girl. I've even seen half the wedding party in one color and the other half of the girls in another. They alternated colors walking in and it was lovely. Many evening Brides will choose the classic LBD and each girl picks her own style.

I had a friend that had her bridemaids all get the same color dress, etc. but from different stores and they all showed up as slightly different colors. When she called the company they said they can't be responsible for dye lot variations, so that's why I'm asking!

To clarify, I am hoping that the dresses are all the same style nad color and I am making different jewlery for each girl. But since I'd like the dresses to be the same color, I just want to know if they all need to be ordered from the same spot!

OK, so the dresses will probably be slightly different colors if they aren't ordered from the same spot? I'm sure it will be pretty, just want to know!

I had all of my bridesmaids, maid of honors and junior bridesmaids order their dresses together... We all went to the boutique together and they got measured and put their deposits down... This was because of this reason exactly... It IS true about the dye lots... My sister was at a wedding where one of the bridesmaids ordered her dress separately from the others and she said there was such a big difference that it looked horrible, even though it was the same designer and color... If you have any girls that live out of state that can't make it to the place, then have her get her measurements taken at a place local to her and give you the information... I did that for my cousin that lives six hours away from me... Hope this helped and good luck! :-)

Yes!!! It is true that from different stores the dye lot can be different and the dressed could come out in different colors. Have them professionally measured where they live and then take all the measurements to one store and order.

I agree with Nicole. Have your girls go to the Alfred Angelos where they live and get measured but then order all the dresses from the same store at the same time. That way you don't chance the different dye lots and having the dresses be slightly different colors.

All the dresses need to be ordered together in the same order from the same location. that's what mon amie bridal told me (when I bought my maids dresses there) and they're experts.

Th dye lots will make the color different but usually not noticeable.

As a vendor I learned a tough lesson in this that I will never repeat again, I always tell brides to order the gowns together from the same place, simply because of "off chance" of color variants, and fabric the designer has available. So my short answer, to avoid any last minute crisis, yes, try to order together.

If the dresses are cut and made from the same bolt of fabric then the dresses would all be the same color. That is why they suggest (but not mandatory) you order all your girls dresses at the same time from the same place. This ensures they are all made from the same bolt.
