I guess it depends on market or location. We only paid $350 for 6 hours

I paid under $1k for mine but idk what the average is.

We paid $1k for our DJ all day in the off-season just outside of Philly

I'm in RI, we are paying $600 for 4 hours.

It really depends on what you want your dj to do. Some companies are now referred to as entertainment companies and have things such as an mc, slideshow, lights, photo booth, etc. 1,000 should be reasonable for just a dj, but if you want any extras you might have to adjust the budget

We're paying $1200 for 6 hours of DJ and photo booth

We are paying $450 for 4 1/2 hrs so our entire ceremony and reception at one location. It does depend on the area where your wedding will be. We did not get anything extra like lights (we are having a daytime/brunch wedding) so that helped keep costs down.

It depends on the area. My DJ (plus back up DJ) is costing us about $2K for 4 hours. No light shows or other gimmicks. I'm in NYC, so it's expensive here.

I'm in New Orleans and both of the venues we've checked out thus far have a DJ that they offer at a discounted rate. One is $500 & one is $600 both for 4 hours. I'm not sure about the average for independent DJ's, but the ones working with the venues we checked out were listed at those prices.

$1700 in the nyc area

The DJ our venue owner suggested to us, cost $350 for the whole night. Reception and ceremony are at the same place and that includes some crazy color lightings and smoke he does.

We paid $1125 for 5 hours. And our DJ was worth every penny and the very generous tip we left him.
