What did you guys budget for a DJ? Did you go over? I thought $1K was a good number but apparently I'm very low?

So far I've got quotes at $550, $650, and $750 for 6 hours. We aren't quite sure we want a DJ though...

Thanks everyone! We're in Delaware and the packages we saw last night went from $2300-$3700 and I think I still have sticker shock.

Depends on where you live. I got a great deal for booking early so I spent $740 for all day but they normally charge 1300.

I paid $1,100 for mine in CT. Most of the other DJs I looked at were in the $2,000s.

I'm in FL but the average is around $1k-$1.5K here. We are paying $670 for 6 hours, ceremony and reception and uplights, it would have originally been about $1200 but I won a half off discount at a wedding expo.

This post is making me depressed :-)

$3k for 6hrs (ceremony + reception), uplighting and mics for ceremony are also included.

We left looking for a DJ a bit too late. It wasn't carelessness- life got in the way. By the time we started looking, we had only two options. Once came highly recommended but was $3k. The other was $1000, but had some really bad reviews.

We talked about it and crunched numbers. While 3k was higher than we had planned, we had budgeted for such expenses and we could afford. We really didn't want to risk hiring a crappy company and regretting it later.

We paid $3000 (price after a discount) for one of the best and most highly rated DJs in Boston area. Worth every penny.

1k is high in my opinion, but it depends on how long you have him for? Ours is $550 for 4 hours - we got a $100 discount for him being our venue's preferred DJ but that is a pretty standard price in my area.

We're paying about $700 for 5 hours, but I think it depends on your location. We're in St. Louis.
