My only advice is just stand up for what you want. My parents built our centerpieces for our wedding, we were going to do fake flowers but then I decided I didn’t want to deal with running to multiple stores trying to find what I wanted/needed so I just hired a florist and my mom got PISSED - like it’s not you wedding. Chill. Just because her and my dad made them (i didn’t ask they just did it) does not mean she’s entitled to make final decisions. Depends on what you want to DIY it’s a lot of time and could be a lot of money.

Hey thanks ! I'm glad you did what you wanted for your special day. People seem to get so excited at being included all of a sudden in my life even when I've been ghosted. This encourages me to be strong and not invite those toxic family members.

We are leaving out toxic family members as well (my FH’s half brother) and my FH’s mom thinks we are doing it to spite her (we aren’t) and his grandparents threatened not to come if we don’t invite him. they think I can persuade my FH to invite him but I’m not doing that, I’m being supportive of my FH.

Pay for it yourself if you are able. My wedding is not at all what my mom would plan, but I feel much better telling her no on things because we’re not using her money (or any family member’s money) to pay for anything.

Do what you have envisioned in your head. The first venue I looked at was exactly what I had in mind and wantedand the price is amazing and others tried telling me I should check others out or even go with one my sister had used which was completely not the look I wanted. So after seeing the first venue I sat down with FH and I showed him all the quotes I had gotten from other places and we talked it over and I signed the venue that week. I couldnt be happier with them so far, I have done multiple visits and pretty much every vendor that they had pamphlets for (caterer hair stylist dj etc) has had great pricing and awesome to work with and I cant wait until my big day. I listen to others opinions but at the end of the day if its not what I want I tell them thanks for the idea and move on.

Shop sales, shop early and be flexible. Make a priority list of what you want the most so you’re not disappointed if you can’t find it or make it quite right. Most of all, have fun.
