What was/will be the most unique thing about your wedding?

EdubbsWife™, on February 26, 2012 at 8:21 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 76

For us, it was "The Newlywed Game." During the cocktail hour, while we were taking pictures, our MC had the wedding guests play the game. There were 4 couples that played and we gave gifts to the winners. Our theme was ingredients for a successful marriage and the winners got gift bags that had prepackaged ingredients to make apple and pumpkin cakes. Game questions were things like "who does most of the housework? Who was the last to get a speeding ticket? Who is most likely to initiate whoopi?" Everyone LOVED it! The photos are of the paddles for the games and the box of gifts for the winners.

What's your unique thing?

We have a lot of little unique touches in our wedding. I think the biggest is our reception entertainment, live band karaoke! I can't wait!

Sooo, who was the last to get a speeding ticket?!? LOL, just kidding. Newlyeweds game is a great idea! I bet they had fun!

I'm not sure if this is unique though. We asked our photographers to make a portrait of every guest/couple, and take a picture of us with every guest. So we sent all those pics with thank you cards. They were a huge hit. Everybody commented that they never get any pro pics from anybody's wedding, except perhaps the couple on the thank you card. The only thing is that it triggered many phone calls because then everybody wanted digital versions as well :-)

Mrs S. That was fantastic! I wish you had told me about that. I would have totally stole it. We send a thank you "package" CD, mints, pens, matches, etc. with a personalized note. But I would have totally sent them their picture because our photographer got a picture of every single couple posed looking into the camera... except us! LOL. But that's another post for another day.

Jen, are you having a videographer? With something like that, you just HAVE to have one!

We're having cocktails served before the ceremony - sig drink, Red & White wine. We've been toying with the idea of having a waiter interupt the ceremony to bring FH his martini & me my Capt n Pepsi Max to help us "get thru" the I Do's. LOL

I think this is unique but it's part of our venue's standard package. All 110 guests are served dinner at exactly the same time. The silver domes will all be lifted simutaneously. So 110 waiters standing behind 110 guests - I think it's pretty darn cool.

    EDubbs.....I love the idea!

Jen H.....Guests love karoke. We did it on Friday evening of our wedding weekend, after the dinner. It was the perfect thing to break the ice when you put 60 people from all walks of life under the same roof.

Mrs. S.....I also love that idea. I am going to steal it and share it with Cate.

Immediately after the last of the important pics that need to be taken, the cake cutting, we stopped the DJ and told our guests to go change into comfy clothes for the dancing all night portion of the wedding. It was outstanding. Some guests stayed dress, as they were already casual. Other guests went and put lounging clothes on. It allowed everyone to dance until 2:00 a.m.

I love the saxophone so right now I am waiting to hear back on the Sax player to see if he can play during the ceremony & reception. Also FH and I first dance will not be only one song, it will be a mixture of songs.

I love the newlywed game idea...may steal it....

Marie I bet your guests will be impressed.

Marie that is going to really make a statement! Love it!

Carole, that was so you! Did you all actually do the bikeride too?

Kimberly we were also able to have a sax player (actually a jazz trio) during cocktail hour. It was a BIG hit.

I'm actually happy I didn't read this before my wedding. Do you know how many EXTRA things I would just have to have done LOL? These are really fabulous.

Fortunately, Jen's idea still only counts as one :-)

Our theme is story book romance and as a way of getting guests to mingle and move around the reception room we are having our story told in a cinderella way at each table. So table 1 will have "Once upon a time..." and table 2-18 will continue this story when it finally ends at the bridal table "and they both lived happily ever after".

I love these ideas! Marie, yours especially is sure to impress your guests big time!

I think our most unique thing is we are writing each other's vows (and then saying traditional vows). So I will write his for me and he will write mine for him... I will probably make him vow to always kill the bugs, to always take out the trash, and to always bring me chocolate ice cream when I'm sick. ; )

You ladies have some awesome ideas!!!!

I think the most unique thing about my wedding will be my dress and the fact that we will arrive to our reception venue on a yacht. Everyone will receive a glass of champagne as they enter the reception venue and everyone has the option of having a second entree.

    I love the ideas! Awesome!

Michelle D....That is a great way to break the ice. Outstanding!

Kristen....That is very unique. I love it!

EDubbs....Thank you. Funny, that's what our guests said! I was semi-shyte faced so I put on the wrong outfit. The outfit was my breakfast outfit, but it got a lot of laughs, so it was cool. We were unable to do the bike ride. ACtually, due to the poor weather and the devastation Irene did to South VT, there was only one bike at the wedding. A 70 year old friend rode up from Tennessee. Since his wife passed away, he has been travelng every state, so long distance bad weather riding is what he does. I had the biker themed wedding without the bikes. : )

Pic of my "bonus" son and the outfit my semi-shyte faced brain thought to put on.

These are some really creative ideas! I would have been so over the top if I had seen a post like this BEFORE my wedding!

Carole I LOVE that picture! I forgot about the storm but I am glad your guest were all able to make it... I remember it was touch and go for a minute there!

Imani let's see this unique dress. Please post a pic.

No, we won't have an official videographer for the reception, but fh and I both have cameras with hd video and a couple tripods....we should get some good stuff. Karaoke is fun, but singing with a live band rocks! =)
