What are all of the different categories needed for a wedding?

ShaTerra, on June 17, 2012 at 2:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Besides the bridal party, I know you need ushers, a reader, and a coordinator or person you trust to make sure the day flows easily. Is there anything else needed? Who sets up the way that the ceremony goes? I have no idea. Is there a website that tells you all of this?

    You need an officiant.

Check with your venue. Set/clean up may be included. If not, your DOC is responsible. As far as how the ceremony goes, you and FH can determine that. I would check the WW checklist.

Your officiant will have an order of ceremony for you, assuming he has performed weddings before. You can make changes as you like, as long as certain things stay in the ceremony somewhere (statement of intent is required some places, etc).

Our ceremony was (I think in this order, or at least close):

    Seating grandparents

    Seating parents

    Parents light candles

BMs walk down aisle (groom and GM already up front with officiant)

Flower girl and ring bearer walk down aisle

Bride and FOB walk down aisle

Officiant asks "who gives this woman...?"

FOB replies and joins bride and groom's hands

    Statement of intent

    Short sermon on marriage

    Vows

Special music and lighting of unity candle

    Exchange of rings

    Announcement\

    Sabre arch

    Recessional

Make sure you think of musicians, too. They will need to know what you decide for your ceremony so they know when and what to play.

Our officiant allowed us to write our own ceremony, great experience! We definitely left out a lot of parts such as a unity ceremony, bridal party, etc. The ceremony is the one thing I have felt we had complete control over and did not have to compromise at all. After all, it's the most important part (when you get married)!

You actually don't *need* any of those people, they're all optional. Except for the officiant, obviously. Your pastor should give you guidance on how the ceremony goes.

We didn't have ushers, readers flower girls, or ring bearers. A coordinator is a big plus, but not a must. Basically it depends on how big and/or formal wedding you want. We had a coordinator because I refused to have any of my family/friends work at the wedding, a small WP but none of the other "functions".

If you hire a Day of Coordinator, make sure you double and triple check their references. Make sure they can show you a full portfolio of weddings they have worked, can give numerous references, both email address and phone numbers.
