Thumb Print Tree--- Anyone actually done one yet?

A, on July 6, 2011 at 6:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

I am hoping you WW'ers can help me settle this with my mom. I REALLY want to do a thumb print tree rather than a guest book, but my mom and aunts are convinced that it's stupid. They say no one will sign it and I will just have a blank tree because no one wants to stick their thumb in ink. I say people will do it, because who's that stubborn?

Some one please tell me my mom and aunts are wrong... or that I am just an idiot and to find something different. (I can take that too)

Well I haven't done it yet but I plan on doing it! I am going to buy a box of baby wipes to put next to the table so when people are done doing their thumbprint they can instantly wipe off any excess ink.... So they better "sign" it!!

That's what my thoughts were. I just hope I can get some people who have actually seen first hand that this goes smoothly.

I haven't yet either but this is exactly what I plan to do .. I bought a container of Sani-Hands wipes for them to clean up. I think my guests will be ok with it and I'm sure yours will too.

I love that idea! FH's side of the family are kind of uptight (i wanted a photobooth as our guestbook but they didnt think anyone would do that) so they probably wouldnt like this idea, but i would designate someone to go to every table and make sure everyone does it lol and guilt the people who dont want to!! go for it Smiley smile

Unfortunately just going for it is not an option. Well... it is, but my parents are paying for 90% of our wedding. I am FOREVER grateful and they are absolutely amazing for it, but I feel without any proof that this works, and my mom being against it, there's no way I can "just do it."

My parents are awesome, but my mom is really stuck on the idea that it won't work, and I hope I can find some people who have successfully done it to prove to her it does work.

My fh's brothers girlfriend is actually making us one! they sell a lot of etsy.com as well. It looks awesome- im going to have orange and brown stamp pad colors and then baby wipes next to it. Afterwards we plan on framing it and putting it up in our dinning room.

    Hi Girls!

Not stupid at all! I love them, something you can hang on your wall that reminds you every day of all the memories from your big day!

I have done this before with multiple weddings but make sure that a few of your bridesmaids sign it in advance because even with instructions sitting in front of the ink pads I have had guests not know what to do. If there are a few on there to start with, it makes the process a lot easier!

Also, baby wipes are crucial! But making sure they have a small trash on the table is just as important otherwise they carry around the wipe till they find a waiter or trash can!

We did it at our wedding. Can't find a picture of it right now...but it turned out great and our guests loved it. We just put a little box of wipes on the table with the framed tree and the ink pads, and it came right off their fingers (we put a little garbage can under the table). We decided not to have people to sign their names, so it just has their fingerprints...we figured adding pens into the mix would just make it easier for people to smear ink all over it.

We brought the tree and ink to the rehearsal, so the bridal party and parents put their prints on it first...then at our reception people saw what they did and used it as an example. We also framed instructions and put them on the table. Nobody messed it up, and almost everyone did it.

We are doing one too!! I agree with having the wedding party and a few family members do it first so others will fall in line!!

Here is mine Smiley smile , I did little moist hand wipes (which you can see in the picture), everyone commented on how clever and unique it was. Now I have something I have hanging on the wall instead of a book with only 2 pages filled that would sit in my closet.

Could you compromise with your mom. We did a tree as well but instead of the thumbprints we had leaves that the guests signed and peeled off the paper on the back and stuck it to the tree. It's adorable and you don't have to have wipes sitting out on the table.

I just went to a wedding that had one and it was a lot of fun and looked amazing at the end of the night after everyone had sign it. You should go for it!

They had theirs placed at the door as you walk in. There were 4 different ink pads, two boxes of baby wipes, garbage can by the table and gel pens. It was really easy, quick and I have say again really FUN!

BTW- Where can I get these? Kelsey- I REALLY like yours. My colors are black white and hot pink so that would look amazing with a Pink tree, white prints on the black background. Love Love Love it

I bought an ornate style frame to put my 'Please leaf your print' sign in - got it for a steal because it was a little chipped and hot pink, and decided to D.I.Y it ivory to match our theme better.

Re-inspired by reading this thread I've just started spraying the first coat and have gassed the house out, lol, WHY did I decide to start this indoors and when it's raining so hard I can't open the windows?! Really must plan my DIY projects better - get a bit carried away.

I think it's an adorable idea. Having the wedding party "put their stamp on it" first is a good idea to give people an idea of what to do. You could also ask a cousin/friend to stand by the table so that they can explain it to guests and encourage them to participate.
