I don't think one is necessarily better than the other..pro to buffet is you can be sure your guests will be super full..pro to sit down, is obviously guests don't have to get up and it has a bit more of a formal feel to it..we are doing sit down mainly because it came out to be a bit cheaper than if we added all the variety we wanted to the buffet.

Italian/Family style.... they want more, they get served more.... but this way everyone eats at the same time.... more time to play... but Buffet is good cause you have more choices and they arent LOCKED into one meal.... ya know? but do whatever works best... you're feeding people... they cant complain...well they COULD...but ya know what i mean

We're doing a buffet. I originally wanted a seated dinner, but was talked out of it by the wedding coordinator who convinced me that the reception flows a little faster with a buffet, and we really wanted to make sure there was plenty of time for fun!

We figured a sit-down would be best for our intimate and fairly formal gathering. We're having filet mignon :-D

We'r doing a buffet. Mostly becaues my FH's aunt is doing the catering, which she does do professionally, but its a more casual kind of catering, and we lonly have to pay for what it costs to buy the food. Plus i just like buffets better, more choices, and the guests can eat whenever they want.

Ask your caterer what's better for your venue/size. My caterer suggested sit down, they have an awesome staff and it actually takes less time than buffet (not to mention it's cheaper!)

We are having a plated dinner. I don't care for the idea of a formal reception buffet.

Yea, I really want to do sit down because it is more formal but I want the reception to flow faster so we can get the night going. I have been to weddings where the meal was really dragged out and it took up half the night!

Buffet. I hate forcing people into only certain foods that you get with a platted dinner. Being a picky eater I know how bad it can be to have something served that you just won't eat, and only a tiny portion of something you would like. Plus with a buffet a lot of times you can be more specific about maybe the type of dressing on a salad, or making sure you get potatoes without gravy. Some people think I'm to picky- by my stomach is to fragile to eat just anything. even things like lasagna sauce can make me sick.

We are doing a sit down mainly because it's cheaper at our venue. They have great service, so it should go pretty quick.

We're doing sit-down. In our region that's the norm, none of the venues we looked at even offered a buffet.

We decided on a buffet for two reasons. 1) it's easier on small tummies if they can eat earlier or later then the rest. (we have a fair amount of small children comming) 2 we didn't want something too formal for our not so formal reception! (plus i love buffets!)

I am planning a buffet as well. FH and I feel people can eat as much as they want, and you don't have to be forced to eat at a certain time.

We are doing a sit-down formal dinner, because it came in a great package and was cheaper. And my FH wanted this one request.

You should search the forums for this- there have been a ton of recent threads on this topic. I personally cannot stand buffets. I would never have my guests waiting through lines, serving themselves, wandering around with plates::: and the sight of food sitting out in mass quantity is just bleah.... that is a completely personal opinion- - weddings where I am from tend to be formal or black tie... so that may have something to do with it.

If the food is good your guests will have a great time no matter what. :o)
