Should i go smaller? UPDATE pg 2

Joni, on May 21, 2015 at 12:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 46

I got my dress at Davids in September. I'm completely disproportionate and none of the samples fit so they measured me for the size to order. I wear a size 10 and in DB bridesmaid dresses a 14.

The lady measured me at a 22 and i said woah try that again. She measured me again at an 18. She only measured the bust but said that was all that mattered. Maybe my fault but i believed i should trust her. Fast forward to the dress coming in in December and they sent the wrong dress. They then resent it which came in in March. I pick it up and it literally falls to the floor on me. I called both stores and they both said that she shouldn't have ordered me a dress that big and instead should have brought alterations in and discussed the best scenarios because of my measurements. Alterations on this dress will be roughly $600. It's a slim fit and flare and looks like a ball gown right now.

The store has presented me with 4 options. cont

    1. keep the 18 and they will pay for 1/2 the alterrations but said it may never fit like it's supposed to

    2. order a 14 which will come in 7/12 and do a hidden corset to make up for the 5 inch gap at the bust

    3. order a 16 which will only need let out an inch at the bust and hemmed, won't come in til 8/1

    4. Get a 16 store sample from another store that could possibly be damaged and we won't know until it's too late to order a new dress. They would credit me the difference what i paid and the current sale price.

    Option 3...

Alterations really don't take much time, especially its only a hem and let in or taken out that little.

If you're worried about the timing of the dress coming in, there is probably and expediting fee you can pay. I've also heard other DB buyers say that their dresses came in a lot sooner than they were quoted.

The timing I keep debating on. They said 12 weeks for this dress and it came in in 13 days.

I want to correct my self-

i say go for option #3 and insist that they cover the Rush charge to get it there in time. since this is their screw up and they admitted it and its the 2nd time they have had to get you another dress

Go for option 3 and take it to someone good for alterations.

I was leaning option 3 but DB is advising against that because they say it doesn't leave a lot of time for alterations. She also said there is no expediting as there is literally only 2 14's and 1 16 currently available in all of the east coast warehouses.

Honestly, I would go with option 3, and not use their alterations person. I would go to another seamstress, and they can usually get the alterations done quickly (and they should cost less than DB as well). You should just start researching other seamstresses now, call them and explain your situation, and make a future appointment.

I'm going Tuesday to talk to them about this. The manager is really pushing for option 2(the potentially too small dress) as she says it'll be easier and cheaper. I'll be meeting with the manager and the alterations manager and have all my undergarments and accessories.
