Should i go smaller? UPDATE pg 2

I got my dress at Davids in September. I'm completely disproportionate and none of the samples fit so they measured me for the size to order. I wear a size 10 and in DB bridesmaid dresses a 14. The lady measured me at a 22 and i said woah try that again. She measured me again at an 18. She only...

I got my dress at Davids in September. I'm completely disproportionate and none of the samples fit so they measured me for the size to order. I wear a size 10 and in DB bridesmaid dresses a 14.

The lady measured me at a 22 and i said woah try that again. She measured me again at an 18. She only measured the bust but said that was all that mattered. Maybe my fault but i believed i should trust her. Fast forward to the dress coming in in December and they sent the wrong dress. They then resent it which came in in March. I pick it up and it literally falls to the floor on me. I called both stores and they both said that she shouldn't have ordered me a dress that big and instead should have brought alterations in and discussed the best scenarios because of my measurements. Alterations on this dress will be roughly $600. It's a slim fit and flare and looks like a ball gown right now.

The store has presented me with 4 options. cont

All for getting your money back and going some place else. They should either pay for all of the alterations or rush the dress there. A month between them getting it in, doing the alterations and matching everything else you will need to the dress is ridiculous.

If you do option 3 (size 16) be sure to ask if the dress is "cut to order." That means they make the dress just for you (sort of like their version of couture). If it's cut to order...be careful because they don't always meet deadlines on that.

My dress was late. DB worked with me and made it right in the end but make sure that they commit to getting you the dress by that date. Most brides get their dresses waaay ahead of time, but some of the upper end dresses don't come in on time.

    Be careful.

Can you get a refund, order the dress online, and take it somewhere else for alterations?

Wow this is a tough situtation. Really a month is plenty of time in theory to have alterations done, it it would still make me nervous. As long as they guarantee the dress will be in by 8/1 and you have a seamstress lined up (with in or outside DB) then I'd say option 3.

I would definitely go with option 3. There's no way alterations can fix a dress that large and make it look right.

I'd also go with option 3 if the timing works for you

Unless they are paying for the alterations entirely, why let them alter it? They've already proven they don't know how to order the correct size. Get the dress and take it to someone competent. Every real seamstress I've met HATES David's. I am positive their alterations department would have ruined my dress if I let them alter it.

I would say if the sample is within reasonable distance of you, I would drive to the sample, and request they refund you on this dress, or give you DB credit.

I had a bad experience at a DB, but there were a couple of dresses I liked. I drove an hour further, had a great experience at another.

I'm going back to the one that is 2 1/2 hours from my house for alterations. Because the first one... didn't know what they were doing. Sounds like you are in the same boat, and I would start over with another store if it's possible.

Also, I reached out to the headquarters about my first experience. I have the number they gave me to call for resolution if the second store wasn't better... If you need it just let me know!

The sample is 6 hours from me. I think it's pretty reasonable to say to not make that trip. They can only bring the sample in though if i forfeit the dress i currently have so it could really backfire.

i am working with a new store now that has been so great. We'll find out Tuesday if that continues to be the case. She did warn me though that dates could change. The 8/1 date for option 3 could change to 8/10 after the 4 days it's been until i technically order it.

My family is really leaning towards me just getting a new dress and having them refund me. I'm trying not to think about that until i see what happens next week.

I'm so sorry you are going through this Jessi!

Here is the number they gave me for customer resolution - ****. Maybe the corporate people can offer a more palatable solution.

Honestly when I ordered my dress from DB (I ended up returning it because I had dress regret) they said 2-3 weeks and because of where I lived I got in two days later. They will get you a different size if you are just exchanging. I would not work with the dress you have. You need to get a smaller size before starting alterations.

I vote #3. Almost always they're a few weeks early, and while 4 weeks for alterations is technically "rush," it isn't that bad, especially if you have someone lined up and alerted to the situation in advance. That's super lame of them, but not surprised. When I went in to buy a bridesmaid dress from them, they couldn't figure out how to measure me and told me to buy the dress size that fit best from the floor.

I vote for option 3 and demand that they pay for the expedited fee.

I would go with # 3. I ordered 3 dresses from DB online. 1) was a sample dress and was too damaged for my liking. 2) I ordered a size 14 and it was too tight in the bust area (with me trying it on by myself 2) I ordered the 16 and it fits in the bust but is a bit too loose around the hips. I will get it altered in August. I said that to say I ordered the dresses online and received them within a week to 10 days.

I just spoke to the store manager where I'm going on Tuesday. The two 14's and one 16 that were in the warehouse have now been sold. There's truly no getting the dress earlier according to her. She says they can only come earlier or be expedited if they're in the warehouse. We now have to wait for them to come from China. As of now, the dates haven't moved but she still doesn't know if they'll move once Tuesday comes.

Yesterday was a whirlwind! Found out right away that in the 4 days from our talk the arrival date of the dress in smaller sizes got pushed off another 10 weeks. There are 0 in warehouses so truly that was the date. it was due to arrive mid October.

So i started the whole process fresh on my own. I had to spend equal or over what i spent last time. This was extremely limiting to me since my previous dress was on the higher end. Midway through selecting they presented the option of going lower but i had to fill the rest with accessories.

Well the first one i tried on yesterday was the one. I actually think it is more me than my previous and i would have bought it had it been an option in that store. Attached are pictures!

Option 3, or going to a different store!

Edited: Nevermind I just saw your new dress update, that's beautiful! Everything happens for a reason.
