opinions? someone accidentally invited me to their post wedding brunch.

LaurenVictoria, on July 27, 2013 at 12:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

This girl that I was friends with/roomed with in college is getting married next weekend. I only know because of pinterest, as she didn't invite me (or several other friends from that group of friends) to the wedding. Which is fine, because after college the group kind of split up, kind of half and half (i.e., I'm still really close with half the group, and this girl is close with the other half). Anyway! Today she invited me to her after wedding breakfast, via a facebook event, not written on my wall or anything. I am 99% sure this is a mistake.

Do I just ignore it, or do I bring it up? I'm leaning toward just ignoring it but one of my friends suggested I mention it since it's a mistake and she might want to correct it or just in case she actually meant to invite me, which I doubt. I suppose there is a small chance she invited me to the wedding and I never received the invite, but that's a very small chance..

Do you want to go to the bunch? Will you be going if she said it was not a mistake?

I don't think I would go to the brunch if I'm not invited to the wedding..

I get so uncomfortable in situations like this I would probably ignore it, especially if I didn't care to go... but that's me.

If you don't plan on going, I wouldn't bring it up. Not worth the hassle

I would only bring it up to bring her attention to it, she may not know she invited an extra x amount of guests to her brunch.

How many other people are invited? I'd probably just ignore it though.

Hmmm...kind of strange. I would think it's probably a mistake since you weren't invited to the wedding. I would think it would be really awkward to have people at the next-day brunch who weren't at the wedding!

That is something that I would probably ignore. If you were to bring it up it could get a bit awkward. I'm sure if there are any others that she accidentally invited, they too, would ignore it. If anything, hit the decline button and leave it alone. She will see you declined the invitation and fix her own mistake.

I would bring it up. I wouldn't say it rudely or anything. I would message her saying, that you got the message but are pretty sure it must have invited everyone on her Facebook list or something like that. Maybe it was a mistake and she doesn't know she invited a lot more people than she thinks.

I think MrsC has a really good idea. She may not realize that she sent it to you, and who knows who else she may have sent it to.

Did she invite any of "the other college" friends to the breakfast? If not then it was probably a mistake. Then i would reply that I cannot attend. Leaves you both in a better position and no one has to say anything but she will definitely know she invited you.

Sometimes fb shows the friends of invited guests the event. This happened to H the other day with someone's wedding. He thought he was invited but it was just fb saying his friend was invited. It's an option when you make an even who sees it.

I would bring it up to her by contacting her and saying:

"Congratulations on your impending wedding. I received your invite for your brunch on (date) unfortunately, I am unable to attend."

I accidentally was invited to an event to get addresses for STD's by a girl that I knew through my ex and who I worked with at a Halloween haunt. I figured she misclicked when inviting people. I left it alone, didn't even decline, she figured it out after a couple days.

If you're pretty sure it was a mistake, leave it alone. She might figure it out without needing to call attention to it, ya know?

I wouldn't go. If she had a tight budget and wanted to have really close friends and family at the wedding, and have another casual gathering with friends another time that's fine. BUT I'd want to get a heads up, "Hey, I'm sorry I can't blah blah, but I'd still like to celebrate with you in another way blah blah...." Then I'd feel more comfortable with going. If she just flat out just invited you to a brunch without talking to you about the wedding, then I wouldn't bother. And since it's next weekend, politely decline saying you already have plans.
