NWR: What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

I am tired of thinking about how crappy people can be. So, let's talk about the good. What is the nicest thing someone had done for you?

I owe the world's biggest thank you note to my FFIL. After I graduated HS I moved in with my FFIL and FH. I was not going to go to college because my mom was going through divorce #3 and she couldn't afford it. My FFIL came up to me one day and said that I am going to college and that he was going to pay for it. He is also the one who taught me to drive, bought me my first car, and let me live (and currently live) with him and FH. I am so grateful for everything he has done for me. He is also helping to pay for some of the wedding.

I was visiting New York around Christmas time with about 7 friends. An older gentleman in a black trenchcoat came up to us and asked, "Do you believe in Santa Claus?" At first we were wary, it even crossed my mind that he was about to flash us (hence why I remember his black trenchcoat lol). Anyways, he handed us 7 V.I.P. tickets to the Rockettes and told us to go right away, skip the line and take the best seats in the house.

Another time, I had a tire blowout on the highway in Chicago. Not only was my car packed with my stuff because I was moving, I was also dressed up for a job interview, and the tire blew out in the bad part of town. Here I was, trying to get at my spare tire in the trunk and having to lay out my belongings on the side of the highway to get to it, when a truck pulled up, the guy changed the tire for me, and handed me a card saying, "You've just been touched by a highway angel." he drove away with a smile. Would barely even let me thank him.

    Nice people rock.

I was on my way to pick up my bridesmaid dress for my best friend's wedding 2 years ago. Walk the 5 minutes to the parking garage (this was in Nashville) to discover that one of my tires was flat. I had flip flops on and did not have the time to go change shoes so I found a maintenance guy to come help me change it and he got the donut tire on it. Well the donut tire was bad so I barely got back from picking up my dress until the donut tire started bubbling out. Unfortunately, I had literally spent almost all of my money getting the dress since I had to rush it because my best friend moved her wedding up unexpectedly (she was pregnant). The next day, I managed to make it to one of the only tire places in Nashville that sold used tires. My roommate was going to buy me a new tire because I didn't have the money. Anyway, the mechanics put on the used tire and I go in and ask the manager how much I owe him and he said nothing. We had told him the hell I had been through getting there and

He gave it to me for free. It was such a relief to me and I'll never forget it!

@Jlacy& Hillary- How come you guys actually get help when you broke down. I broke down in the middle of nowhere on a below zero day. A creepy toothless guy came over. Not to help...just offer me a beer. I was 17!

@Laura-Jean- Lucky you have your sis. Mine is being ridiculous and she's not in it, will be lucky to get an invite!

Probably because I was in the middle of downtown Nashville and there was a sports club at the top of the garage. I was lucky that there was someone there to even help me.

When I was in college, I was driving from NC to IN on Christmas Eve to visit my family. My car broke down just past Lexington, KY... in the middle of nowhere. It was cold and dark. I didn't have a cell phone. I was in tears after unsuccessfully trying to flag down some help for 20 minutes. Then a car DID pull over... and I freaked, until I realized it was a family with young children.

They drove me back to Lexington and paid for a tow truck. They took me to a hotel and wouldn't leave me there until they made sure I was taken care of... in the midst of my crying and phone calls to a mechanic and my family, another woman overheard and paid for my hotel room and took me out to dinner.

Until then, I had no idea that strangers could be so kind.

FH's parents paid off all of our debt this summer, and it feels amazing! And they wont let us pay them back...I couldnt be more thankful! (Hence why they're getting LOTS of say in the planning)

My mom was diagnosed with a very rare and incurable blood disease when she was 17 spent lots of time in the hospitol. She married my father 5 years later and had my sister and I over the next 4 years. She had no health insurance and was being treated at a doctor's office that was later shut down for treating patients inhumanely (my mom still has scarred veins from the "chemo" they shot straight into her veins that is suppose to be done by drip). She was getting sicker and my parents had no money for her treatments, she was on death's door. She spoke to the pastor at our parish and he made it his mission to get her into City of Hope (its a cancer hosppitol). He made phone calls to people in the church that had made large donations to the hospitol and told them about my mom. He was able to hook her up with the hospitol that gave her free treatments every week untill she went into (miracle) remision 8years later. I'm so thankful to Fr. Rowen for saving my mom's life, he was a very good man
