Need help with slip...what type

Legacy, on June 21, 2012 at 2:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm trying to figure out what type of mermaid slip/petticoat I need for my gown (hoop or crinoline or other). My ceremony is outdoors and I don't want anything too hot or fussy so I'm thinking a hoop may work best.

One image is my dress with nothing underneath.

The other is my gown with my girlfriend hiding underneath lol (She was sweet enough to do this so I could see the difference)

The last picture is two other brides in my gown (assuming they have on slips).

First off, your dress is beautiful. Second I purchased a fit and flare slip from David's Bridal. It was very comfortable to wear and only $49.00. The best part about it is that it slims your tummy area too.

Thanks Kim! I know your wedding was outdoors as well, was the slip hot or scratchy?

I'm hesitant about buying a cheap one from ebay or china b/c it may itch all day. I definitely need tummy control too lol.

I ordered mine off of ebay from this store and it looks just like one above and it was only $33 with free shipping. The store also have hoops to choose from if that is way you decide to go. I also have a mermaid style dress but decided against the hoops as I didn't want to fight with hoops all night. I probably searched for several days the reviews and pricing on where to get it. I also wanted to be sure that they were stateside. Mine did come in a small box and will have to be hung out prior to the wedding but that really isn't that big of deal - at least to me, so it will pack away nice and small after the wedding.

    Good luck

Thanks girls. So it looks like none of you went with a hoop.

Kimm P. do you have the link for the actual slip you ordered from them?

Definitely not a hoop. They are very awkward to wear and make it hard for people to stand close to you. lol

I think its hilarious that your friend hid under your dress for you!

I have to find a similar slip too. The one I put on at the salon while doing alterations was HOT. (It doesn't help that I'm in AZ and its like 108 either!) Do they make any of these slips that breathe easier?

Nope, honestly I really couldnt tell I had it on. The material wasn't harsh against my skin.

Toni-Marie, I saw this one on eBay which is from China. Did you receive it yet, just curious of the shipping time and how it feels.

    Thelma's twin,

That's what I tried on at my shop! (Toni-Marie's pic) It felt fine--wasn't itchy it was just hot. Thankfully I am a Nov bride! It helps the dress a lot! (At least it did mine)
