Mini RANT! People are just the worst!

JulieR, on June 26, 2015 at 8:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I once swore that I would never have a rant post, but that changes today. My wedding is getting close and RSVPs are pouring in, at about the ratio we were expecting. Then we find out that a few of FH's childhood friends are actually coming to the wedding! Yay right? Well one writes a facebook status, tagging both FH and myself in it, asking where everyone else is staying for the wedding etc. We are getting married on an island in the Puget Sound near where we live in Tacoma, but my family lives in Maryland and his in Phoenix so it is a DW for most guests and we understand that. Well one of the friends comments on that post saying that with all the money for guests to spend, we should've just gotten married in Hawaii. I'm sorry but no one is forcing you to come. If you can't swing it, then don't show up!! Or at least don't say rude comments about it on a post that I am tagged in!! Also this isn't some random location. We LIVE here! And it's where FH proposed. Grr.

Facebook stuff like that annoys the heck out of me! People have balls on the internet but not irl! But I always have to remind myself-- haters gonna hate. If I don't remind myself of that once in a while, I'd go crazy.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Before guests respond yes, they should see if they can afford it (which includes travel and accommodations) and if they can't then they should RSVP "no". I personally don't think anyone should tell you where to get married - the location is chosen by the couple for their own reasons (no matter what they are).

That really sucks and tagging you in the comment makes it even worse! People don't think how you all must feel -- especially since I'm sure you all took everyone in to consideration with the DW.

I am not kidding when I say that that is one of the reasons we chose a DW...is because for all of our guests (except us) would be travelling to the wedding location. But you are totally right, they don't need to come. If they are going to fuss about costs of travel and such, then they can stay home and see pictures later. People forget that weddings are not about them; at the end of the day, if only you and your fiance show up, then so be it!

Ugh. People are lame. And it may be expensive, but it's their choice to come. We're in the same situation but haven't gotten any rude remarks that I know of.

I'm sorry about that-- people just tend to be abrasive on the internet and say things they'd never say in real life. Brace yourself for what you might get here!

Thanks guys! I mean I'm sure plenty of people are thinking it, but don't talk about it on facebook for me to see it.

@KeitaiKT no actually San Juan Island, so a bit farther away but not too bad for people in this area.

@Amie, I actually live in Tacoma and don't get up to Seattle much. We would love to move up there, but it's just so much cheaper to live here. Seattle is wonderful and I know people who live in Greenlake and it is beautiful. I love Queen Anne right in the city and Issaquah is a really great area for families and only like 20 minutes from the city. You can't really go wrong anywhere except maybe certain areas of south and west Seattle.

I bet if it was in Hawaii, they'd still be whining. Brush it off.

Heck I live in hawaii and I can tell you it is definitely much more to travel out here! Not to mention you having to send all your stuff out here or bring it with you which would suck! People just want everything to be their way. My mom still complains 2 weeks out that we should have had the wedding in the state she lives in!
