is anyone else not doing a guest book or anything else that ask people to write their names/comments down?

Jennifer, on January 28, 2011 at 1:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

FH and I talked about this and thought that we could spend the money elsewhere instead of asking people to write stuff into a book or onto a photoframe.

but will a regret not doing one?

This was one thing I was adamant about, having a photobooth to serve as the guestbook. I am so freaking excited about the ridiculous pictures and crazy comments and I think it's going to be an awesome keepsake. I just found this tutorial on how to DIY the photobooth and it's going to save about $1000 (her total costs were $170 and the quotes I've gotten so far are in the $1200 range from the photobooth companies) and I think it looks great, and the strips they take home also double as favors. Sooo, there's an option you can consider. And since we are venue twinnies we could actually both use the same materials and split the costs so it would be even cheaper... just an idea! I'm doing it anyway so you are welcome to talk to me about it if you want to!! http://vistaprint-goddess.weebly.com/diy-photo-booth.html

We are not doing a guest book, I am having little pieces of fabric with fabric pens for people to write well wishes on then I am having it sewn into a blanket for us. You can get fabric really cheep at joanns so it won't cost more then $10 or $15 for it. I don't think you will regret it though if you don't want to do anything! Your day your way!! Smiley smile

I don't think you will regret it especially if you have lots of pics of who was there. I did not want a book where people just signed their names and I would never look at again. I decided to make a photo book of our engagement pics (I wanted one anyway) and left room for people to sign or write notes. That way I have both.

We're not doing it. I doubt I would ever look at it again. But we are having a photo booth and I think it comes with a book that people can paste their photos into.

With our photographer we get a signature frame as part of our package. And that's what we will do and can hang it up in our apartment.

I didn't want a traditional guest book. We had a DW and an at-home reception. I took a pic from the wedding in Punta Cana, and had it blown up to an 18x24. Then I Mod Podged it to chipboard pieces. I had silver and black sharpies for guests to sign the back of the pieces. I still haven't framed it, but I'm going to nail each piece to a sheet of wood with a frame and hang it in our hall.

We're doing a guestbook, but its made from shutterfly with pictures of us growing up, and pictures with our parents. you can write on all of the pages, its like a storybook of us growing up over the years, so even though we may not look at it, it's something we definitely both wanted.

Breanne, I absolutely LOVE your blanket idea! I may have to steal that. We are having a photobooth and will ask everyone to take pictures and sign the scrapbook in lieu of a guest book.

We haven't decided on it yet. I really like the idea of the quilt squares, but I don't know anyone who makes quilts. My grandma did back in the day, but she's passed away. I tried once upon a time.... It was an epic fail!!!

We aren't doing a traditional guest book. Since our whole wedding theme has been about Italy, I got postcards with pictures of Italy on them. We are putting up a sign for everyone to write on the back with well wishes or best advise for a long/ happy marriage.

I went to a wedding where they had mini canvas about 2 inches by 2 inches. They wanted each person to draw a picture or put well wishes on it. They were going to put them all together to hang in their house.

Instead of a guestbook, maybe do something more personal? for example, I am having a guest "fish tank"

What i mean is having my guests use the stamp pads i will provide, put their thumbprint onto the paper and sign their names to it. I got the idea from Michaels.com, their idea was a tree but i altered it to my wedding.

Instead of a traditional book I'm thinking of doing a recipe box (a nod to the fact that we might get married at a cooking school) So I'll get a cute card box and make some fun recipe cards that have "From the kitchen of ___________"

An ingredients list & a spot for the directions. I'm hoping we'll get some creative cards back.

We're having a reception in Vegas after the ceremony and a reception back in the UK 2 weeks later and wanted messages from everyone at both parties. In Vegas we are having guests write on postcards so when we get back we can get them bound together professionally to make a little book. For the UK party we have got some large chalk boards in the shape of speech bubbles and we will get guests to write/draw on them and have their pictures taken holding them up. This will also take the pressure off guests who struggle to think of deep-meaningful gumf to write to newlyweds! haha!x

My husband and I knew we werent ever going to look at a guest book again and instead decided to go to a pawn shop and get an old guitar and had all of our guests sign it. Its something that we've hung on the wall in our music room and actually pay attention to. Find something that fits the two of you that you would like to have to look at for the rest of time instead of an old book thats just going to collect dust.

We didn't want just a regular guest book with a bunch of names, so we put together a guest book as more of a photo album. So that people could put their picture in the book and leave us a message. I love looking through it now because I get to see all my family and friends and read heart felt messages not just someones quickly scribbled name. lol

I wish we would have had our photo booth up and running before our own wedding (we couldn't afford to rent one for $1000 at the time) because the pictures we used are kind of lame. But they work. Smiley smile
