invitations- DIY?

Kelly, on May 18, 2017 at 11:28 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 49

I am overwhelmed. My invitations are "supposed" to go out this Monday (22nd) and I don't even no where to start. I want to keep it as cheap as possible (seriously, like $1 or under per card), so I am looking at just purchasing a template on etsy and then going to UPS or office depot and getting them printed. BUT is that the best way? I also thought about DIY pocket holders.

Where did you guys go and how did you do it?

I have no advice for DIYing invites, but wedding paper divas is having a 50% off sale right now, just FYI.

Vistaprint is a great place if you want them cheap and they are always having sales!

Don't DIY before you check out the major online retailers like vistaprint, etc

I ordered mine through Etsy but I used a local printer. I've heard that some of the big box places like Staples and Office Depot are more for business printing and not as good for invites. But I know some people use them.

Monday may be cutting close still though since you will need to wait to get the proof done with the Etsy seller, get them to the printer (they may also need to order your paper), pick them up, and stuff them. When are you final numbers due to the venue/caterer?

At this point a DIY project would take too much time! Definitely don't take on DIY pocket holders now!!

I'd check out national sites like Vistaprint, Zazzle, Minted, Wedding Paper Divas, and do rush shipping! Also either order and start printing your envelopes now (while you're waiting on the invites), or have them printed for you!

I diy-ed my invites and it was so incredibly time consuming. Since you are getting close, I would look online at vistaprint or other similar websites. Vista print will print a design you buy off Etsy or create yourself and some of their invites are inexpensive.

You can also buy nice boxed sets at Michaels or Joann fabrics or other craft stores if you have a printer at home that will work with them. They're also fairly economical.

At this point I would not recommend printing at ups or similar. I did and had to cut all my invites to size which was incredibly time consuming. You also don't have to send them on the 22nd. I'm getting married the same day as you and that's just over 11 weeks from our date. I think I'm sending mine out around June 1st.

Thank you everyone!! I will check out WPD and vistaprint.

@Sarah - I called ups and they told me about a week until they would be done :/ also, I bet my mom told me the 22nd to get my butt moving haha

@LauraR - final numbers are not needed until the end of July, just a week before the wedding.

I would suggest vista print with a coupon code ( I used them for my std at 40% off) . If that's not an option you could go to Joann fabrics with a coupon ( 40 -50% off) and get the Wilton brand printable invitation box of 100 and print them off .

If you DIY the invites just be careful with the wording. I've seen too many DIY examples here on WW that have errors, are worded incorrectly, missing pertinent info, or just look DIY.

Vista print, they were having 40% off, if you use code VPREFER you get $20 off $40 (new members only). I managed to get 50 invitations, RSVP cards and accommodation cards with envelopes for under $35 and shipping is quick.

ETA DIY pocket holders is a thing (I'm making mine) but time consuming. It takes me 11 minutes to make one on my cricut

Do any of you have picture of what your invites looked like using vista print, wpd, etc?

I got mine from vistaprint during a sale. I paid $35 for 100. I also bought a pack of 200 blank cards from Michael's for $20. I typed up the RSVP and glued it to the blank cards. They came with envelopes as well. For addresses I bought labels and used a template online to print them out and just stuck them to the front. I did that for the return address on the RSVP as well. Those were $5 for 100 labels. I bought two packs. So for 100 invitations I spent about $80 with stamps included.

I bought an Etsy template and printed at Staples. Easy and less expensive. I ordered envelopes and pocket folds from cards and pockets.

@kelly if you go to their websites you can look at samples and personalize them to see what they look like. WPD is still going to be expensive even with the 50% off but they are beautiful.

I made ours from a $20 for 40 invite kit at Michael's. Printed at Office Depot, though make sure it's a standard size--otherwise a headache. I then ordered vellum paper for a mock folder, bought cardstock (cut into strips), and used a wax seal. It ended up being beautiful. But it was a lot of work. Looking back, I wish I'd just ordered them.

First of all, calm down! It's significantly too early for your invitations to go out. June 10-24 is the proper time frame (6-8 weeks before the wedding.) So you have over a month left. No need to rush.

I ordered mine off online from Wal-Mart.com. .48/invite with envelops. I didn't use RSVP cards though. Phone, email, face to face, Facebook. Keep in mind I have a very simple small wedding. Reception invites went out for our Open House not reception (dance nor gifts). Just great food, tons of alcohol. We had music for the background, cake, etc.

I DIY'ED mine. I bought the invites from Joann's and my cousin printed them out from a Laserjet print. Turned out fine and I spent less than $20. Do what is best for your budget and your sanity.

I got mine from viataprint with a 50% coupon code. After shipping it was $102 for 150 invitations plus I spent $14 extra for a little nicer paper
