I've never heard that it was bad luck to make your own wedding cake but personally I would not want to make my own cake with everything else going on that day. I'm all for less stress for sanity's sake.

You know what's also bad luck? EVERYTHING YOU COULD POSSIBLY DO WHILE GETTING MARRIED INCLUDING GETTING MARRIED ITSELF!!!!! I had to get that out. Seriously everything in one way or another is bad luck, so don't even go there lol. But if you think you can handle it I say go for it.

I don't think it's bad luck, but do you really want to do all that extra work just a few days before your wedding? I understand that you wanna save money and all, but you have to balance saving money and over doing all the DIY stuff.

Honestly, if you're good at it and don't mind the additional task, I say go for it. You're good at it and it's your profession, so it's not like you're trying something you've never done before. Sounds like a great way to save money to me.

My wedding is this weekend and trust me, you will not have time to make a cake. There are more things piling up on me now than before.

Saving money is great, but some things should be done by the vendors. It's your day so you should relax and have fun. Hope this helps.

I am making my own cake (though its a cheesecake). My aunt made my cousins cake... its not all that hard if you know what you are doing (which as you said you do)

I agree with everyone else.. Never heard it was bad luck at all.. Luck is what you make it.... If you have the time go for it... that is the only thing that would worry me is TIME... It would be kinda nice to be able to say yep I helped in the making of my cake as they are all saying wow where did you get this cake from... Just don't overload yourself in things you have to do at the last minute.. Smiley smile)

I would if i could! Just be sure to give yourself a lot of extra time...remember, you are a bride too!!

btw, does it REALLY cost that much to make a wedding cake or is much of it hype because it is a 'wedding' cake? I know it's a lot of work if the cake is detailed. Just wondering since you're a pastry chef. You know, on the inside tip!!:-)

I think most of the cost is the time they put in to create a piece of art.

@Sarah, I wanted to make my own cake as well, but FH said NO NO NO!!! My wedding is almost all DIY. The only things Im not doing are the cake, food and 2 bm dresses. FH knows I try to take on too much and and Im a perfectionist so he doesnt want me to stress out. I really think you should give the job of cake to someone else. Its going to get heptic the week before and you need to cut as much stress as you can.
