Iceland Honeymoon experience

Colleen, on June 28, 2015 at 11:59 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 34

As promised for the other ladies who are headed to Iceland for your honeymoon, and for any other ladies who are interested, definitely have to visit. It is a crazy country. There are so many sheep, horses, and we even saw reindeer!!! it is surprisingly uninhabited and once you go outside of Reykjavik the "cities" are about 500-800 people. extremely small and limited activities, but hiking through the landscape was amazing and such an experience. don't miss the glacier lagoon it was probably the highlight of the trip, also things are pretty expensive, especially food and drink. there is a ton of lamb, which i don't eat, but others love. lots of fish, but i was dying just for a salad at the end of the trip. everyone is so nice and they love their geothermal baths. There was one place i am pretty sure Jim Henson discovered as inspiration for the bog of eternal stench in labyrinth. i was gagging so much the other tourists were laughing at me. planning a trip next year to Reykjavik!

This is awesome! thanks for posting !

We are flying Icelandic Air when we honeymoon in the EU next year for our one year anny. and we both want to explore Iceland. FH is a student of geology with a emphasis on volcanoes and I have always wanted to ride an Icelandic Horse. (I was a pro show groom/trainer for decades)

Well you both will certainly have fun! apparently for all of the Apollo missions the astronauts were brought to Iceland for training and taking samples before they went to the moon because the middle of Iceland and volcanic areas were the closest place on earth to the barren moon.

Awesome! We're going to try and go next fall to see the Northern Lights.

Also want to go on a horse tour-- FH is 6'2" and almost 200 lbs, so it will be funny to see him on a small Iceland horse Smiley tongue

I am so glad you posted this! We are headed to Iceland in less than a month! The photos you too are BEAUTIFUL! I am so excited, even more than before, to see this amazing country. We are planning to see the Glacier Lagoon, who did you use for the excursion? Do you have any recommendations for places to eat that you really enjoyed?

@ courtney we didn't use anyone for the excursion, we rented a car and did the ring road ourselves. If you are in Reykjavik stop by the public house gastro pub. Raul is a bartender and he is awesome along with the food! The northern fish company is a nicer restaurant we went to for our last dinner and it was by far the best meal we had. Apotek as well was a nice place to eat, all near the city center in Reykjavik. Have fun!

Iceland is on our possibly honeymoon list! How much did your trip cost, if you don't mind sharing? What would you recommend to make it affordable?

We're going to Iceland too in September!! Quick question, are you from the States? I kept seeing stuff about it being expensive (food/drink), but I'm from Canada and from what I've seen food prices are pretty similar. Plus people don't tip there, so it's not really that different. Booze does seem a bit more, but only by a couple bucks.

One of the other brides recommended to me to buy booze at the airport when you arrive because it's significantly cheaper.

Beautiful pics, makes me excited to go!

Also, DUALES. THANK. YOU. You have no idea how excited I am you posted this. I'm so excited about it that I'm typing up these comments as fast as I can before I even read your whole OP. I read the first words, saw the pictures, and freaked out. Then I saw Silan had commented and freaked out even more. This is a great day. Hedgehogs. Icelandic honeymoons. HURRAY.

Haha, no worries, happy to share. sorry for the delay. I am from the states, the food and drink were definitely expensive but considering the tip is included it wasn't too bad based on the prices we spend in Boston. You just have to anticipate eating out so much. For the two week stay including everything we probably spent about $5 k for the both of us. Alcohol definitely is the major cost, buy stuff at the airport! The govt has a monopoly over the liquor stores.
