Highlight of your day

Laura, on November 9, 2018 at 3:07 PM Posted in Married Life 0 19

For all my girls still checking these forums post-wedding, what was the highlight of your day?

Mine was actually our cake cutting! It was a great accumulation of our day and us. We both love cake and "You've Got a Friend in Me" played. I tried to eat the piece I was supposed to feed him so it was fun like us and we shared a great kiss. Of course I loved when I walked down the aisle and moments we stole alone together, but when I look back I loved our cake cutting!

The highlight of my ceremony was the actual religious rituals with him (we're Hindu).

The highlight of my reception was doing the Macarena with everyone LOL, it was hilarious.

It's really hard to narrow it down to just one thing! It was just so amazing meeting my SIL and BIL and nieces and just everyone all being together dancing and having fun.

DH spinning me during our first dance was pretty magical since it really showed off my ballerina looking dress lol

My father walked into the door frame as we exited our venue to walk out to the outdoor space where the ceremony was being held. He grumbled (quietly of course) all the way down about how they don't make doors wide enough for two people and how do they expect two people to fit through the doors and they really should have made them wider... So very much my father who I love to bits and pieces. We have the best pictures of him walking me down the aisle with him and his grumpy face and me cracking up. I could not stop laughing and guests were asking me about it all night.

For me it was our first look and then sitting at our sweetheart table at dinner - talking about how gorgeous everything was and just being so amazed that the 185 people we were looking at were here for us!

    I had a few highlights:

    - our first look

    - our first dance - DH has terrible social anxiety and wasn't going to do one. He said he would wait to see that night how he felt so we practiced a few times to the song I wanted. 5 minutes before we did it he felt brave enough to do it and he even remembered the moves I taught him!

    - our first dance when we invited everyone to join us about 30 seconds into it - his mom danced with him and his dad danced with me which meant a lot to me since I didn't have family there or a close parental relationship

    - at one point during dinner, DH looks at me with tears streaming down his face to thank me for planning such beautiful wedding and telling me he was wrong to try to convince me to have a more casual, less expensive event

    - the conga line nearly everyone joined!

    First look.

Having that moment alone to allow us to see each other for the first time was wonderful. We got to be silly, and him teary eyed.

Our ceremony. My husband surprised me with having the bridal party all wearing Mocking Jay pins, then did the whistle. The ceremony was very us. Fun, I kept making jokes, then heartfelt.

There were lots of great parts of the day, but the highlight was hands down the second line (brass band parade) following the ceremony.

Walking down the aisle was the best moment. It was like no one else was there. When I got up to my husband he whispered how pretty I looked.

I SANG to my hubby. Yeah. I cried, he cried, I had some bum notes. Everyone clapped. My favorite moment happened after our photographer and videographer left, of course, we sang and danced merrily to Sweet Caroline in a circle with 100 people. We had a congaline that crashed the other wedding, (they crashed ours first!), we had a popcorn bar which everyone loved. I danced with my dad, I danced with my officiant/friend/mentor. Our vows made everyone cry.

So many amazing memories from the day! I loved dancing with my husband and all our guests. Overall, it was a great feeling to look around and see all the family and friends that love and support you and who took the time to celebrate with you.

    I can’t choose!!

    1. My little sister making us all genuinely laugh during the getting ready photos.
    2. My mom seeing me in my dress.
    3. My dad and I standing together right before the doors opened with him telling me he loved me and was so happy for me.
    4. That moment walking down the aisle seeing everyone and then my husband, which led to photos of me smiling, laughing and crying, ALL THE TEARS.
    5. The entire ceremony really, it was perfect. I was soooooo nervous (public speaking is one of my fears) right up until I took my husband’s hand *more tears*
    6. Seeing my grandmother, who everyone feared might not come for religious reasons (we were having a civil ceremony), sitting up front with a huge smile plastered on her face.
    7. Our first dance.
    8. Our failed cake cutting where we cut into the fake part of the cake (oops!) which caused the knife to get stuck. We pulled back both our hands and the knife was left their dangling and we were laughing too hard.
    9. The part of our best man’s speech where he played a recording of our dog barking because he couldn’t make it.
    10. That moment when it was just me, my husband, my best friend and her husband left and we were all partying on the dance floor.
