Could I Get Preggo?

Rachael, on September 8, 2015 at 10:46 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 82

My wedding is about three weeks away (ahh, cue the excitement and stress!). I was home visiting my family for my bridal shower this past weekend, and someone left the door open to my dad's office. Their dog busted in, broke into my purse, and ate one of my BC pills. I missed my pill Saturday night and obviously can't make it up. Last night, my FH and I did the deed. And I'm pretty sure yesterday and today I'm ovulating. Could I get preggo from missing that one pill? The thought of it is super exciting, and now I kind of want to stop taking my pills altogether lol. We're planning on starting to try soon after the wedding, but could it happen now?

You can get pregnant anytime regardless of taking birth control or not.

Thanks, Shauna. I know that. But I'm wondering how much missing one pill increases my chances.

You absolutely can get pregnant from missing one pill. It is a little frightening that you don't know that lol.

You definitely increase your chances, if you're still within the timeframe I would look at taking a morning after pill if it can be mixed with BC. Talk to a doctor if possible on your best way forward.

I've read a lot of information over time that warns that even just one skipped pill, or taking them not at the same time, drastically increases your chances of getting pregnant. Smiley smile I'm nowhere near an expert so hopefully wiser women will chime in here, but that's the verdict I've found over the years.

ETA - But Sue she's excited about the thought of a baby. Smiley smile

Yes, missing one pill can lead to pregnancy. If you're really concerned, go get some Plan B

Ladies! I do know that you can get preggo from missing a pill. I'm just wondering how much it increases your chances. I've never been the best at taking my pill, but I've never gotten preggo either. So that was more my question. But I do know that missing a pill means it ups your chances! Maybe I'm just excited and wanted to post lol.

It could, but is unlikely from one missed pill, but definitely a possibility.

However, please please recognize... The first few weeks are when organogenesis occurs. Very important time... Do you plan on drinking at your wedding? Because it could be one of the worst times for that. Grand scheme, 3 weeks is nothing! Maybe just wait until after your wedding, as a thought! Super exciting

What Randi said! I don't want to prevent getting pregnant. We're looking at starting a family soon after the wedding so this would be a blessing.

It only takes one time and it's totally up to chance. You'll just have to wait and see.

@Mrs.B to be Yes, I do plan on drinking, however I'm not a big drinker. We're not going to actively try until after the wedding. I'm still taking my BC. I'll finish my last pack around mid-Oct and then we'll go from there. This was just something that happened that I wasn't expecting and now I'm sort of hoping that it does. I'll actually have a period prior to my wedding, and if I'm late, obviously I won't be drinking.

Women who are trying to conceive have about a 25% chance every month, and that's with tracking your cycle and not using any preventative measure. However, as MrsA2B said it only takes once so there's really no way to know. Definitely take a test if you don't get your period on time.

I am an Ob/Gyn... if you missed one pill and took the remaining pills on track, the chances of you getting pregnant is low. You don't ovulate when you are on the pill and missing one pill is okay. It would take missing 3 pills in a row to allow your body to ovulate and for you to possibly get pregnant.

You asked in your OP if you can get pregnant for missing one pill, and now you are saying you know that? Buy the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility from amazon and start getting educated if you're looking to try.

It really depends on your body and also how long you have been on the pill. A lot of women who have been taking the pill for an extended period of time (years) can't conceive until they have been fully off for a few months and their hormones regulate. Every woman is different.

I missed one pill and have a child to show for it, lol. But I'm also a fertile Myrtle so that could have boosted my chances. My OB said to always use a backup (condom) if you miss a single pill or even just take it really late.

I second the recommendation of the book Taking Charge of your Fertility. Most women don't ovulate after missing 1 pill, but of course there is a chance.
