cookies

Panda Bride, on May 11, 2011 at 9:24 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

Long ago we threw out the candy bar idea because of costs, but I still want something a little more than just cake. I thought about making cookies and putting them on platters next to the cake. If I made the cookies on thursday before the wedding would they still be fresh by saturday? Or would buying them from a bakery probably be cheaper/less hassle?

They would still be fresh, you just need to make sure you put them in air tight containers. That's what we are doing to and I am making some of them on Wednesday night!

I always think my cookies actually taste better a day or two after I bake them, I would just buy them though to avoid the stress.

I would say the bakery. I was going to do the candy buffet but changed my mind bc of cost also so I will be ordering chocolate covered strawberries from ediable arrangements.

We had a HUGE cookie table, my mother in law and her sister (my aunt int law?) made them the whole week beforehand and just put them all in good containers. They were a huge hit!! Smiley smile

@Sarah, it was expensive for us because of our amount of guests and finding teal and blue candy was a pain in the butt! I'm sure common colored candy is much cheaper.

I did exactly this! I made my famous Chocolate Mint Chip Cookies and displayed them around our cake. I made my dough the weekend before and put it in the freezer and then the day before I actually baked my cookies. I let them cool completely and then put them in zip lock baggies to stay fresh for the next day (cooling completely is a must or they will make the bag condensate and it will ruin your cookies).

Cookies are going to be our favor. Its a cookie recipe FH made me when he wanted to ask me out. I plan on making the dough the week before and freezing it. Then baking them off one to two days before the wedding! I may do extra to have them with our cake.

I like the cookies instead of the candy bar. You could do other desserts besides cake such as cheese cake, a favorite pie, or cobblers.

One thing I may do is mints. They are just cream cheese, sugar and mint extract. You press them into butter molds and voila! I think they are delicious.

We are doing a cookie buffet. You can freeze a majority of cookies! In my freezer now are 2 batches each of oatmeal raisin, chocolate peanut butter, cocoa crinkles, and lemon coconut pixies! I hope to make a few more types of cookies. When you freeze your cookies, put a layer of wax paper between the layers of cookies, allow them to defrost for 12 hours of so before serving.

I have a FABULOUS recipe for choc chip cookies. Will post when I get home.

I"m doing homemade favors as well. Doing key lime cake in individual loaves and freezing a month before the wedding. That way I don't have to worry about it, will just take them out a day before and put them in cute packages with my girls Smiley smile

For dessert, in addition to the wedding cake & Groom's cake, we are doing an Italian pastry/candy buffet. This will not be our favors, as we have something else. Since our colors are fall colors, we are sticking with things in gold foils or chocolate colors, with a few green, oranges & berries. I found the candy to be inexpensive because I hit the Easter sales and just bought the non-Easter candy colors, using a sale price with a manuf. coupon. The date will still be good in October, & I am storing them in an air tight can.

I will be buying all the Italian cookies, except for the pizzelles and the cannolli. I will make the pizzelles a few days before and store them in a large cookie tub.

I did make little bags, just in case guests would like to take a little snack.

Here is my inspiration for the lay out of the table. I will drape it in brown ribbon. I am also posting my bags. I had fun buying containers at diff stores & changing old serving pieces.
