At a loss! Trying to find the right venue around D.C.!

Katherine, on March 14, 2013 at 12:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Hello!

I am hoping that someone may have some advice. I am out of ideas for wedding venues in the greater D.C. area. We are looking for a creative/untraditional venue that can hold about 150 ppl for a late fall wedding. I am trying to keep the budget as low as possible (which is not easy in D.C.) all the places I have seen are 4-5k for just the space, with nothing else included, which is a lot when I have to feed 150 ppl. I am also open to outside of D.C. - any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hello. I am getting married at The Loews Madison Hotel in downtown DC. The budget there is higher then what you are looking for but I suggest looking at some hotels. When cost includes food, sometimes linens, you sometimes get a room for the evening (I get two nights in the suite at mine included). Having the whole wedding (from ceremony to sunday brunch) at the same location helps a lot with travel and costs.

I'm getting married at Oxon Hill Manor and I have to say doing my wedding at a county facility is really inexpensive. Check out the other locations offered by Montgomery County and PG county. I think we're paying about $3700 for 7 hrs on a Saturday night

Def. check with the local parks. If you are willing to go into NOVA I have a venue that may interest you - message me and I'll send you the contact info.

Yea def go outside DC- it is crazy expensive there, even for a basic hotel. And the more untraditional you want, the pricier it is. Much of MD is this way too. But in Montgomery County, there are some nice options with parks and such. I am in Mont. County and we ended up going to PA to find what we wanted. If you are willing to travel outside DC, MD has a lot of options.

Have you tried a vineyard? Or a state park usually has very large spaces for lower prices. I'm not sure of the kind of venue you want, but if outdoor suits you, you could research the aquariums, zoo, museums, art galleries and such. Usually hotels are have packages of included vendors, so it's a bit more budget friendly. But the MD/DC area is so beautiful that doing it outside might be nice and save you some money!

Are you looking for in the city limits or does outside DC work? You might want to look at parks, hotels and the like outside DC. Sometimes they can rack up the prices because they're in the capital.

I wouldn't do parks in DMV in mid November. You certainly need an indoor option at least for the reception so that' doesn't make much sense.

What's your budget for the reception?

@Mrs.S - many of the parks in DC/MD/VA has historic homes on them that you can rent for weddings. They are rented through the county park department.

Yup! They have lots of reception areas and chalets that are indoors in the parks too. Some of the historic homes are so beautiful!

The Mount Vernon Inn is actually pretty reasonably priced. That was one of the places I was considering before I decided I was better off planning our wedding in Michigan where my fiance is from. We can get so much more there than in this area.

If you are willing to go a little outside the city - try some of the country clubs in the Gainesville/Haymarket area. Not sure of your budget, but I found them to be a lot more reasonable.

Right, except that renting those historic properties is a totally different ballgame than the regular "marry in the public park" deal, and price wise (at least in NOVA) they're in line with OP has found.

Not much to look at on the outside but has inside appeal. Try the Cardinal Room in Bowie, MD. I believe they offer all-inclusive packages or can customize something to fit your budget.

I recommend the Mt. Vernon Inn (part of George Washington's estate,) too! We gave some thought to get married there, and compared to most D.C. venues, the price is super reasonable!

I'm getting married at Antrim 1844. It's in Taneytown, MD which is a bit of a hike from DC but in the off season it is pretty affordable and the price is per person rather than broken into site fee, catering, etc. Everything is included. It's BEAUTIFUL and would be perfect for a fall wedding. They have a pinterest account with pics of weddings there in different seasons.
