Are you keeping or selling your wedding dress after the wedding?

Mrswilson2012, on June 13, 2012 at 3:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I pretty much knew from day one that I was going to sell my dress after my DW. I figured if I have a daughter in the future I would want her to get to experience dress shopping and how fun it was, but now I am having second thoughts and I'm not sure what I will do. I can always look at pictures & videos of the wedding and see my wedding dress and It would be nice to recoup some of that money after the wedding, but now I'm not sure!

Do you plan on keeping your wedding dress after your wedding or selling it and why?

I'm keeping mine. I'll offer mine to my future daughter (if the time comes obviously), and if she wants to go dress shopping I'll be totally fine with that too. I just like the option. My mom was out of the whole wedding picture, so I feel like I missed out on some special "sharing" stuff. My sister was sweet enough to let me borrow an attachment she had on her dress on her wedding day. I was so grateful to have something, just anything, "handed down" to me. Maybe my daughter will just want my veil or a piece of my dress...who knows : )

I had my preserved through David's Bridal and it's all sealed up in a nice box in my closet. Takes up a little bit of room, but not much.

My dress was $80 and I am keeping it... it was not a "wedding dress" more like a summer casual dress... I will prob wear mine again to a party or something someday. If I had a big fancy traditional dress I would sell it...

If I decide not to keep mine, I think I will try to pay it forward. Its a lovely dress but I think it would be nice to help out another bride.

After everything settles, I will part ways with my dress. The shop where I am getting my alterations done sells mostly consignment dresses and said lace dresses fly off of the shelf. I hear so many stories about dresses that people keep and just throw in the closet. To me, it seems like a waste! I wouldn't expect my daughter to want to wear it and like you said--dress shopping is an experience!

I think it will be hard to part with it but I figure that someone else can enjoy it and not have it take up space in my closet!

My dress is a very simple strapless with a pleated chiffon skirt...and I thiiiiink I'm going to have it shortened and dyed and wear it again as a cocktail dress! Not 100% decided, but definitely considering it!

I'll probably keep mine. For no good reason.

I'm definately keeping mine. I can't even think of parting with it LOL I am very sentimental that way.

I'm keeping mine... but I made mine convertible (from long for the ceremony to short for the reception) and I'll be able to use it for my tango performances since it looks tango-esque in it's shortened form.

My friend puts her on every year on her anniversary and just hangs out aruond the house in it. I kind of like that idea, just cause I love my dress so I will probably do that...for the first few anniversaries anyway!

I'm undecided. It'd be good to recoup some of the money spent on it.

I wouldn't hold my breath about selling it - wedding gowns are notoriously difficult to sell.

That said, I don't have a better plan. Mine is still hanging in the closet in it's pink bag. I wanted to donate it to Brides against breast cancer, but I somehow can't get to it.

I wouldn't sell mine for the world. Which is interesting, because I'm normally a compulsive declutterer and regularly go through the house looking for things to sell and donate. But I guess it's because all my life I grew up dreaming of being able to see my mothers' wedding dress -- she sold it right after the wedding and bought a couch and a desk. She made it herself and I've been in love with it's timeless design my entire life. My wedding gown was as close to hers as I could possibly find, and she custom made the shoulder cover for my ceremony. That's priceless to me.
