Anybody elses toasting flutes and cake servers don't match?

mlw, on April 20, 2016 at 4:10 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 52

I know I'm probably breaking some unspoken rule here, but I like them both for different reasons. My rule about this wedding is basically "waste not, want not"... if I can't repurpose it in some way, I don't want to waste $$ on it. So for my flutes, I can totally envision them on display on top of my entertainment center in the corner, maybe with some candle in them (and if we ever need toasting glasses again, we have them), opposite corner is our heart sand unity thing we're doing with the kids, with a picture of the temple we are getting sealed in hung in the back on the wall. With the cake servers, I wanted them to have that timeless, heirloom feel to pass on and use for birthdays, my kids' weddings, etc... I am really sad I don't have my great grandmothers silver set. Anyway, this is is what I found Smiley smile They don't match, but I love 'em....

Definitely doesn't matter. I had beer mugs and a cheap cake cutting set from DB. Your flutes are beautiful!

Literally no one will notice. Our flutes are just regular, engraved that someone bought us. The cake set was my parents' and they added our named and wedding date to it. It was so sweet, I do love that idea!

I think this is where cost can be cut. It really doesn't matter to me. I will use what the venue provides

I didn't know they were supposed to match?

I don't think anyone will care or notice this.

No one is going to look at that except you.

Honey, you are literally the only person who will look at the flutes and the serving pieces and say, "They don't match". Haven't you heard? Eclectic is in. You're not outfitting a bedroom suite with matching pieces; you're using ceremonial items that speak to you on one of the most memorable days of your life. For the record, I love both of them. Sure, one set is contemporary and the other is more ornate, but who cares? They belong together.

Literally no one will notice. I made my own champagne flutes, used my IL's cake knife that was pearly plastic, and used whatever serving spatula I found in my mom's kitchen drawer. The photographer didn't even notice they didn't match.

You can file this one under "details no one will notice or care about". It never even occurred to me to even consider whether toasting flutes and cake servers (or anything else) matched.

My "toasting flutes" were red leather goblets and my serving set was fancy silver. No one cared, other than saying they loved the goblets.

Not even getting a cake cutting set. We're using the hotel's supplies.

Can I just say out of every wedding I've been too I have never noticed or cared to notice the cake servers or the toasting flutes.

Wait, people actually devote brainpower to this? These are details that NO ONE but you will notice, on items that will be used for precisely 5 minutes of your life.
