Did you walk down the aisle to a different song than everyone else?

GoingGuthrie8517, on March 24, 2017 at 12:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

I am having a hard time picking out songs for walking down the aisle. I know for sure that I do NOT want cannon in D. Or the bridal march. So this has me questioning whether or not I should have one song for bridesmaids and myself or should I still find two different songs ? Our dj is in the wedding party and will be controlling the music on his phone somehow so I'm worried two songs may not work. I just want to hear everyone else's decisions. TIA

BMs are going down the aisle to Canon in D. I'm walking to Mendelssohn's wedding march. It's not the traditional one and is often used for a recessional.

I am! My walk is so long and is broken into two parts so I have two songs. As a cellist, Canon in D is the worst song ever.

The WP is walking to He's a Pirate and I'm walking to The Imperial March and Across the Stars (It is Anakin and Padmé's theme music.).

Since we're only have 2 people in our bridal party, I think we might all just walk down with one song. But I haven't decided yet.

My BMs are walking to 1000 years instrumental. Might be worth a listen for you

I'm sure your DJ can make two songs work. That's what we did.

Everyone before me is walking to Danny's Song by Kenny Loggins, then I will walk in to the first 2 minutes or so of Always A Woman to Me by Billy Joel. When I was trying to find two songs, I would put them on a Spotify playlist and listen to them back to back to see if it sounded right.

@TimeLadyErika I'm walking down to Across the Stars as well! My FH and I are huge Star wars fans. Our recessional song is going to be the celebration song from the end of The Phantom Menace.

My BP walked out to "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, while I walked to Canon in D.

If there's a song you really like, but don't want the "regular" version, you may be able to find an instrumental cover of it.

@Ashley We are obviously fans as well considering our date! Our recessional will be The Throne Room and I'm pretty sure our entrance song will be Celebration at the end of ROTJ. That or the Stargate theme. No shame.

We are planning on just doing one song. FH and I are both walking down the aisle, and it would feel strange if I got a "special" song and he didn't. The wedding is about both of us equally.

It's pretty common to change songs so I wouldn't think it would be a logistical issue for a DJ. It depends on what you want.

How is he controlling the music through his phone? Sonos? This sounds like a potential disaster, unless he is a professional and has a lot of experience doing this. A DJ would take your song picks, fade out the first song and fade in your song so there is a seamless transition. If your friend is just hitting "next" on his phone to the next track, you will likely have an awkward change in music, or a potential long delay in letting the first track finish. Same when you made it the alter - sudden stops instead of fading your song out.

The wedding party walked down to a different hymn than I did. We only had 2 bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen and they walked together, but the aisle was pretty long lol. It was worth it! We also did not have a DJ doing our music but a pianist and an opera singer so transitioning between songs was easy for the musician to segue the songs into each other. Is your wedding going to be in a church or outdoors or something else?

My bridal party is walking down to the Jurassic Park theme (my mom actually suggested this and it is SO pretty as an instrumental with violin) and I am walking down to an instrumental of Zelda's Lullaby. It's a beautiful song and has a LOT of meaning for me.

I'm walking down the aisle to a song that's special to me and my FH. It was our first "song" and we still sing it to each other to this day, but I'm doing an instrumental version of it.

My wedding party is quite big (9 bridesmaids and 9 groomesmen) so I feel a separate song will be more special for my big moment. At my wedding, I'd like to feel special, so I feel that's a small thing to do that will make it special.

My MOH got married in June and I honestly don't remember what songs she chose, so that shows how much people pay attention to the music!
