Did you stand on anything for your ceremony?

Rosie, on April 28, 2021 at 11:33 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 18

So! I have very thin stilettos (chosen for sentimental reasons!) for our wedding, which is to be in September in the highlands here just outside Sydney.

However, my fiance is super keen that we get married outside, and it is possible (in fact, probable!) that the ground will be a little damp and springy.

The girls are also wearing stilettos, and whilst it is possible to balance on your toes for a while, a 30-minute ceremony seems a bit long.

I'm thinking to have an aisle runner for the majority of the aisle, and then either a second runner for the bridal party to stand on, or possibly stepping stones for each person?

What did you have/what are you having/what would you do?

If you are wearing a long gown for your wedding dress you can get away with these and they will be your secret weapon! https://www.myer.com.au/p/stiletto-stoppers-195283090

Thank you! My sister in law gave me a pair which I do plan on wearing! I think they'll definitely help and will protect the actual heel itself, but I'm just not sure they'll be sufficient to prevent sinking entirely! I thought maybe we could each stand on a timber slice or some stepping stones from bunnings or something, but I've never seen it before.

I've seen rugs, so maybe that's the way to go!

Put the stilettos away til your first honeymoon diner, and wear 2 inch block heels.

I love both of your ideas! I think a runner would look good, and stepping stones would probably look even better!

We didn't stand on anything for our legal ceremony (Covid elopement) and don't plan on it for our wedding celebration ceremony either, but I wore short block heels for our outdoor venue. I have seen photos from weddings where a decorative rug is used (often boho style beach weddings) and its a cute look if you find the right rug and it goes with the vibe of your wedding.

They do sell little "heel caps" you can get for stilettos that slide over the heel and provide a wider base to distribute weight over so they don't sink in the dirt as much. You can get them pretty inexpensively on Amazon. I bought some for our event just in case any guests are ill prepared. I would recommend wearing those and gifting them to your girls.

I wish ours had a stage, haha! Maybe I can ask my father in law to construct one!

Thanks! I figure fiance and I would share one larger one, but I wasn't sure if it would look odd, with everyone else on their own little stone. I've never seen any pictures of anything like that!

Thanks! when I started looking, I learned it would cost as much to rent as to buy, so I was thinking a jute style hall runner could work - like the below in pink, or maybe a natural. I do have the heel protectors - might need to get some more for the girls.

Oh I think it would look great! It would also look great if everyone in the bridal party (or at least bride's side vs. groom's side) were on the same item like a runner! You can't go wrong, in my opinion! I would personally think "Oh what a brilliant idea to accommodate the women in heels and the men in the nice shoes!" Smiley smile

I kind of agree it would look best with everyone on the same rug. Otherwise maybe everyone would look like they were on little islands, lol!

I'm not wearing heels, but we have a boho rug as decoration that we will be standing on. Maybe you could look into that!

A rug would help. If it's going on potentially-mushy ground, consider finding an "outdoor" rug - they usually have rubber mat on the underside to keep them from becoming saturated. Or get a rubber mat to put down and then layer fabric over it.

I think I will do this. Jute is fairly sturdy so can be outside, but I might see if there's anything with a plastic back!

Try to avoid rugs with loops to prevent getting your stilettos caught!

Could you put down a piece of wood with a runner or something decorative on top of it? That way there is something solid but you can make it pretty.

Yes this might be a good idea. I wasn't sure how it would look, but having something solid might be best.
