Did you shop around for a seamstress?

Hello! I'm looking for some advice on finding a seamstress. The place I bought my gown at didn't have in house tailoring and had recommended a couple of people for alterations- one of the people they recommended had bad reviews and the other doesn't do wedding dresses anymore (but she recommended me to someone who does do wedding dresses and has good reviews!). So now I have to find someone myself and am unsure how many seamstresses to take my dress to before picking someone.

The dress fits really well since its corset but it needs to be hemmed quite a bit and there's lace at the bottom of the dress and a LOT of layers (ballgown dress! lol!). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

TLDR: I have to find my own seamstress but am wondering how many people you guys saw before settling on someone to alter your dress!

It certainly couldn't hurt to shop around and have a couple different people look at your dress and give you an estimate. Ask each person about their experience on working with dresses with lots of lace and layers. Ask to see examples/photos of previous dresses they worked on. In addition to the cost estimate, I would also pay equal attention to reviews. If one company is cheaper but has lots of negative reviews, that's a concern. Depending on the complaints listed in any negative reviews, it may be worth paying more to take it to someone else who has lots of good reviews.

Can you get a more poofy petticoat that might be simpler than getting the dress hemmed?
