Did you regret not having video?

Francesca, on March 9, 2020 at 9:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Our photographer was going to include videography in our package but we took too long to confirm with her and unfortunately now they don’t have anyone available.
In recent months so many people have told us it’s their #1 regret not having a video of their wedding. We’re working on trying to find someone short notice but our wedding is April 24th so unless we spend a fortune I’m not sure it’s going to happen for us.
How much am i going to regret not having one if we can’t find one? I’m working diligently to see what we can do- I’m really bummed i feel like we made a huge mistake lol 🤦🏻‍♀️

We didn't have a videographer, but we did have two photographers. We've only gotten our sneak peek back, but I can already say I'm very happy with the pictures they've gotten (and I've only seen 25 out of hundreds we'll be getting back). If we had an unlimited budget, we would have gotten a videographer. I love the videos I see from other couples, but it just wasn't a huge priority for us. It really just depends on you personally!

Talking to others that are already married wished they did because they were so busy and the day went so fast that they wished they could go back and see the little things happening in a video.

I would have liked to have a video of our ceremony but it wasn’t in the budget. And I’m okay with that because honestly, how many times are you going to watch that video. A lot at the beginning, maybe once every couple years after that. Is it really worth the money?

I wanted video more than photo just because I kind of felt like it was a good live action recap of the day

We had a videographer and we are so happy we splurged on that. We love our videos.

We had our day of coordinator use a go-pro camera to capture our ceremony and first dance and the quality was actually very good! Just throwing that out there as an option if you want some form of video

We booked a videographer, but I didn't know they were a big thing until last year! I have only been to one wedding where they had one, which was last summer. That's when we booked him! We watched him work our friends' wedding and then when we saw their short video, we were sold. It was pricey though...almost as much as the photographer because we want a short edited video to share, and the longer video for us (we're that couple who would watch it on every anniversary. I found someone as sentimental as I am Smiley smile We live far away, so for most of our guests it's a "destination wedding" and some people will not make it. The 10 min video will be fun to share with those individuals. Or for social media if you're into that. But if it's not in your budget, it's not the biggest deal in the world.

I’m a huge sap so I wanted a video so badly, but our budget was limited. I talked to my fiancé and he agreed it was important so we prioritized it and found a way. My then-healthy dad was diagnosed with leukemia 16 months after our wedding, and gone before our second anniversary. To say that I’m thankful for that video would never do justice to what I feel. Was it expensive? Yeah. But I encourage everyone I possibly can to find a way.

I got a videographer! She is a newbie, which I like. Inexpensive & gives someone experience. Maybe consider that route? I found her on a state-wide facebook wedding collaborative group.

Daughter always wanted video but it didn't originally fit the budget. She ended up getting an unexpected bonus about 6 weeks before the wedding and decided to see what she could find. She was super-picky about all her vendors, but for the last-minute videographers she took a chance on Thumbtack and ended up having great luck. She found a married couple who were available for her date, with a portfolio she was very happy with. They charged her $100 per hour, including all the raw footage, and had options for separately priced highlight videos. She ended up booking them for 7 hours (first look through cake cutting). She got 6 hours of unedited video (which is actually awesome because it includes all the original audio as well) and then a 6-7 minute highlight film for a total of $1500. When she'd originally started looking, she hadn't found anyone under $2500 and most were $4000+. She is extremely glad she has all the video she does, in addition to her awesome 1100+ fully edited still photos. Good luck!

I’ve heard from a friend that you’ll watch the trailer or 1 minute reel more often than the actual wedding video. Totally agree with pp that the day goes by so fast that at least a video will capture all the small details and special moments.
