Did You Know You Could Rent a Wedding Dress??? or Rent Out Your Wedding Dress?

Yardiegirl, on March 18, 2012 at 7:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Ok so my sister came to me and revealed that she actually rented her bridal gown. I had no idea you could do that!! She said she found a local vendor that provided the service.

I mean it makes perfect sense that it would be an option. Men rent tuxedos. So why not rent a dress if you can't afford to buy? The only thing is that you can't pass it down or keep it or donate it. Also, you might not find what you REALLY want and may have to settle....but at least it's an option!

I even found a website that allows you to rent dresses or rent out your dress...

pretty cool

Interesting, I wish they had actual shops though I wouldn't want to ship my dress to someone and never get it back.

Sounds like a thinly veiled ad to me...

Very true...the online one might scare me a little. I'd have to see what rules they have in place before I would give them my dress. However, my sis said she rented her's from a shop in our town...so maybe there are local vendors who do the same thing

There is something about buying you're dress and being the only one that's worn it...The feeling is different Smiley smile

I found a local shop that rents dresses, had I not found mine so cheap I would have looked more into it. I think renting a dress is a great idea for those on a tight budget (like me)..... But i probably wouldnt do it online.

This was an option for me because the origional dress I wanted was almost $2000 and that just was NOT an option for me. There are a few local shop where you can actually try them on. It makes perfect sense like you said, its just one day and no one would ever know the difference.

They show ladies renting their dresses a lot on tv (particularly on Dont Tell The Bride), but there are no places around here. I looked.

My seamstress rents out wedding gowns! I wish I would have looked into it, but I don't think they offer a bigger selection, especially for a plus sized girl like myself.

There is one place around here that rents wedding dresses, but the reviews on it are horrible.

2 friends of mine did this. I live in an area with a very high percentage of brides- there are tons of places around here- but they are all modest.

Renting out your dress seems like a good financial move, but I can already picture someone returning it with damages and the hassle that will ensue.

I've looked into it a bit, and you're better off with DB's $99 sale. Depending on the dress it could be really pricy to rent a dress. I guess if you absolutely wanted a specific dress, than it might make sense. Although I don't see the point of paying $200 to rent a $600 dress, or $1000 to rent a $2000 dress. The only cost effective dresses were really cheap ones that you might as well just buy.

I've heard about this...some girls don't want anyone else to wear their dress because its very sentimental to them, but others might not be attached to all details of their wedding and maybe if your thinking of selling your dress or trashing the dress, then this is another option! make some of that wedding money back... thats pretty cool. I wont be doing any of those things since i love love loooove my dress and spent over my budget on it.

I'd be curious if alterations were allowed, I mean if you were short would you be able to hem it, or take in the seems if you were in between sizes. I highly doubt that would be permissible so that seems like a good option only if you fit exactly one size and are the perfect height for the dress.

It is an interesting idea though, I had never heard of that.
