Did you add any sleeves/straps to your dress?

Nessa, on July 5, 2017 at 11:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 35

Show me! Before and after pictures? Considering adding some cap sleeves or off the shoulder straps to my strapless dress.

I tried some on when I went for my first fitting but we were in a rush and the one I tried on was too beaded and didn't match. Thinking about going in with more time to try on a variety, hopefully just lace ones.

I know it won't be the same until I actually go and try it on with my dress, but I'd like to see some examples of those who have done something similar.

Below is my dress and a pic of what I'm thinking of adding, in the comments

I am adding a belt to my dress so it will have some beading.

Love it!!!! I'm having the opposite problem. I'm wondering if I can have them remove beading! LOL hopefully I'll find some lace ones without beading.

I do love sparkles too!! But the dress I fell in love with just didn't happen to have any :-/

My theme is rose gold though and the BP will be wearing a lot of sparkle Smiley smile

@GreeneBunny Beautiful dress. It's similar to mine which is detachable too. Mine came with sleeves. The alterations are going to tighten the sleeves that I already have but the sleeves are basically see through with some appliques. No need to add them to the dress in the OP. It looks good as is unless you are "highly blessed" like I am, then I understand. Do you

I didn't add sleeves but I had the back converted from a zipper to a corset for a better fit and I wore a chiffon wrap over my arms.

My bridal shop told me that my dress was originally strapless and the shop added straps to it (for whatever reason?) It was a Kenneth Winston dress originally $3,500 marked down to $1,300, so I'm not sure if another bride had straps added and then never purchased it or what the deal is, but I love it.

I'm having the same debate. I google image searched the style number of my gown and it came up with some photos from preowned dress sites that had straps, so that helped me narrow down what I did and didn't like.

I added sleeves to mine because I had an image of what I wanted my dress to look like-but fell in love with something strapless.. I had tried on a dress with a similar bodice that had the off the shoulder sleeves I liked-so I already sort of knew what it would look like. I do think your dress would look very pretty with the added sleeves. Also just a thought-if you are wanting them added because of a church wedding-you can make them removable (snap or button in) so you can have a different look for the reception. Here is my dress pre sleeves...don't mind the awkward face

And post alterations...I also ended up wearing the spaghetti straps too because I lost weight from stress the last few weeks before the wedding and didn't have time to take the bodice in more and it was sliding down without straps. ETA: I took the swoopy sleeves off at the same time I bustled my dress for the reception.

Lovely dresses, all! Thank you for the feedback.

    @daniella that's a great idea, I'll try a search like that!

@MrsVoegs BEAUTIFUL! I would have never guess it was added on!

@apz I'm debating something like that too.

My dress is remarkably similar to yours. I added an illusion neckline and back with lace detailing and cap sleeves. I have my first fitting on Saturday and may decide to trim the cap sleeves to just plain old sleeveless (if possible). This image is not my dress, but the top part of this dress is very similar to what mine will look like, although the lace on my dress is ivory, and the underlay is gold like yours.

Beautiful dress! i love the adding sleeves idea. i had a little jacket made by a friend of my mom's who is an amazing seamstress. wore during the ceremony and then for a bit of the reception--the sleeves were designed to be rolled up so i had them a bit shorter as the night went on. i didn't think i needed it but in the end i liked it, it felt a little more formal and fancy for the ceremony (note: moms are always right)

I'm getting cap sleeves added! I don't have a picture of me without the sleeves, so that's just the stock photo. The lace in the cap sleeves I'm ordering matches the bodice detail in my dress. The picture is just from when I tried on the dress, so the sleeves are too big and not sewn in yet.

@Apz your dress is stunning with the straps. I had a tough time because I did not want a strapless dress, so it was going to be a last resort to find one and add straps. If I had, it would probably be something like yours, gorgeous!

Sleeves/straps were a must for me! Cap sleeves didn't work for the dress so I ended up doing straps instead. There were able to get some extra lace from the same designer to use as straps. I would recommend using invisible tape to help the straps stick properly. (Because the dress wasn't built with them, they don't provide as much support or stay on as well as built in straps.) We also brought some extra invisible tape strips so I could touch up at the reception.

Also make sure to try everything on after they make alterations to make sure they did it right! They had put on one of the straps upside down and if I hadn't insisted on trying it on again, we wouldn't have noticed until the wedding day!

I got a lace bolero to go with my dress. It came from my dress designer so it matched perfectly. Plus it gave me the look of the illusion back that I had been looking at on other dresses.

@Olivia, can you tell me what to look under for the sleeves on BHLDN? I am trying to find them, but can't. I also want to add sleeves but not sure where to find them, and my seamstress refuses to make them.
