Did anyone else have dress regret?

FutureMrsW, on March 19, 2014 at 8:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 50

I bought my dress last weekend and I absolutely loved it! The consultant asked me if i wanted to buy it in White, Ivory or Champagne. The sample was ivory so i said ivory. However, after looking at the pic over & over again the next day day or two, i started to regret the color i ordered bc the dress looked more of a yellow in pics than Ivory/off whiteish color. Smiley sad I now wanted white instead of ivory. FH is wearing white also, so i want to match him. I freaked out so bad. but i called the boutique today and asked if it was too late and the manager said its fine and glad i called so soon. They were able to change my order from ivory to white. It will take an extra 2 weeks but I dont care. There wasnt any extra fee and i get the color I want! Did anyone else have a hard time deciding what color to buy?

Nope! that was one of the only things I knew i wanted about my wedding when i got engaged. I had no idea what i wanted my dress to look like, but i wanted it to be white! i'm glad they changed it for you. my FH will be in dress whites, so it's a good thing i wanted to be in white...i would look dirty next to him in ivory lol

Yep, dress regret a bunch. I'm on wedding dress number four (but it's The One).

No, not color. Unfortunately though, I have dress regret about the dress I purchased. I mean, I really like it but the issue was there was another that I really, really wanted. I had stalked it online until I found the price. When I finally did the cost was way more than I wanted to pay. I couldn't get it out of my mind though even after trying on other dresses. I found a boutique 4 hours away that had it and tried it on. Loved it of course. However, I really couldn't justify the cost so I bought a different one at a lesser cost ($1500 less). Now though, after alterations, veil and sash, I really should have just gone with the original one I loved (that would have been made for me so no alterations would have been needed). I like my dress and it will do, but it really isn't the one I want.

    Such is life.

I was the same as Shannon, I have been dreaming of a white dress forever and even though ivory is similar I'd always know that it wasn't true white. To me, true white just really makes me feel more like a bride and is special. Glad you were able to get yours changed, I almost ended up with ivory because the consultant was reading back my order and said ivory and I said "NO NO NO! White!" so that could have been close. My dress is now discontinued so that'd be a big bummer!

Not on color, but the dress it's self. I got a white ballgown with sleeves from a girl that never wore it and it's probably 10 years old. I started looking at other dresses and every time I would pick one something would happen and I couldn't buy it. So I cut out all the tulle and it looks much better. My mom does not like that it's white but the beading has aged so it looks a bit ivory.

I regret NOT buying a dress. I tried on some dresses at a sample sale at a designer boutique here last fall right after I got engaged and there was this amazing Maggie Sottero that literally was as if it was made for me and it was only a couple hundred dollars because it was a sample. But I wasn't even sure what kind of wedding I was going to have at that point and some of the beading was loose and it would have had to be cleaned etc. Now of course I truly wish I would have just purchased it. I can't even find the design anywhere now.

Not the color but had such dress regret! I tried on beautiful gowns all in the mermaid/fit and flare shape but couldn't justify spending $2000 on a dress. Then at an appointment they put me in a ball gown and I was amazed and felt like a princess. The dress was $600 as well so I though SCORE! A day later I had such dress regret and had so until my first fitting last weekSmiley smile. It fits beautifully and im adding lace detail to the train so love love love my dress nowSmiley smile....but still look at others and wonder if I made the right decision lol. All normal I guessSmiley smile.

Yes! I really wanted white because of the tradition, but everyone was telling to get ivory. After overthinking it for a few days I decided to get white, and it's perfect! Deep down I would have been upset with ivory.

Not with color! I always knew I wanted white. I wouldn't have even thought to order any other color. My mom insisted on white and so did FI so it was not an issue. I like the dress that I ended up with and everyone who has seen me in has liked it. I don't feel like I'm in love with it and I really don't feel any connection but it will do LOL

Not with color....I was pretty open to anything, really. But I did have a style regret for a while. It lasted literally until my first fitting. Then my miracle seamstress changed the entire train and I fell in love all over again!

    Not dress, but deff color.

I tried my dress on in ivory/champagne. I was so excited, it was something different.

My sister and I went to a different dress shop that had my dress in the white/white... I was so confused and was thinking I made a huge mistake. I thought the white on white looked more "bridal".

My dress was at my mom's house at this point, so needless to say, I rushed over there to put the dress on.

I knew I made the right decision right there, but actually seeing the dress in the other color option gave me a scare for a second. So I totally feel you right now lol. Glad you were able to change it!!!

Luckily for me, I picked the right color the first time.

I think we tend to over think things the more we look at pictures and inspirations from other weddings. Just do whatever makes you happy and don't look back Smiley smile

I thought I did. I had a very definite vision going in (ALL LACE), and and wound up falling in love with a dress that has not only NO lace but no embellishment whatsoever. A few weeks after ordering it, I kind of forgot how much I loved it and kept thinking it was too plain. And then the dress came in and I tried it on again - not a doubt in my mind I made the right decision. My dress isn't particularly elaborate, but it's very sophisticated and elegant.

I wish I'd worn a short or tea-length dress. My usual clothing style is vintage/retro, so it would have been much more "me." But I let the dress shop talk me into the more cookie-cutter strapless a-line. Don't get me wrong, I liked my dress, and I got a great deal on it. But I wish I'd been braver and less traditional.

If we ever do a vow renewal, I'm getting my retro short dress, dangit.

I knew I wanted ivory so color wasn't a problem for me. I kind of hate myself in my dress though.

Not with color, but with the dress. I've had dress regret since about 2 weeks after buying the dress. I keep thinking that I should have gotten a more fitted dress. (The dress that I bought is a ball gown). I'm happy that you were able to change your order!

Haha I did exactly the opposite Julia. I went in with a no lace mentally and bought an all lace dress. It's ivory but not because I thought I couldn't wear white because I live with my FH. I can wear whatever I damn want, I just thought ivory looked good with my skin.

Same as Shannon H, my FH will be in dress whites too. Plus I've also always wanted white.
