You should do save the dates and invitations.

Save the dates and a physical invitation. If I was a guest and received an email for a DW, I'd be peeved. Show the guests you want their presence at your wedding. They will be spending a lot of money to travel, get hotels and food. Be more formal in how you go about this.

Either or is fine just make sure to give substantial time. You can even do a mix of both such as physical ones for older folk

We sent save the dates in January and then we’ll send invitations later in the year.

For destination weddings, you'll want to send out physical STDs well in advance, and your invitations should be physical, too Smiley smile You can always have your wedding website set up to accept RSVPS, but you should still send out physical invitations, especially for a destination wedding.

I am having a DW wedding and I did Save the Dates/Invites together. I sent them about a year in advance to give guest plenty of time.

My best friend did an evite for her DW and it was fine - but she also got married within a few months of her engagement. I sent save the dates almost a year in advance and invitations about five months in advance. My invitation list is much larger and I wanted to give people time to plan.

Wedding is 10/10/20. So you still have a lot of time. Got engaged 1/11/19 so the total engagement will be 22 months.... a little too long for me. But we liked the wedding date so we’re waiting it out. 🤷🏽‍♀️ However all of the planning was finished months ago.

I'm surprised how many people (my family included) are opposed to email invites? I actually think it's easier for a destination wedding seeing that they can have all of the information accessible on their phone rather than worrying about a physical invite. I'm planning destination and sent out an email save the date as soon as we confirmed the venue (8 months prior) and will be emailing our invitations with a link to the wedding website by the end of April.

It's 2020, people! I, personally, was offended at the cost of paper invites and that's what solidified my decision.
