I looked into both Florida and Punta Cana, and ended up deciding to get married closer to home (NJ) for a number of reasons. For Punta Cana, getting married at an all inclusive and the price of staying at the all inclusive were so attractive, so affordable. The price of flights was the dealbreaker. The flights were expensive! At least when we were looking to get married. I didn't want my guests to have to worry about affording those flights. I was talking with Occidental Caribe Punta Cana, I liked their packages. I was also in talks with Small Miami Weddings. They have nice packages too, and a lot of pretty locations to choose from. But I needed to price compare, and unless you go with a base package with nothing extra, they won't ballpark prices for you for the extra stuff to get a rough idea of what everything will cost, which was a turnoff to me. I don't want surprises at any point. They also won't plan receptions for you, the most they'll do is give you a list of places nearby that could accommodate. In the end, I ended up sticking to getting married closer to home because ultimately it will cost about the same all things considered, and it will be convenient and more affordable for my guests. But totally not trying to sway you, these were just my experiences with these two places in my research Smiley smile

I'm partial to Puerto Rico!! We got married there in January and it was entirely perfect. Hotel El Convento was our venue and it lived up to its reputation ten fold!! Flights never went above 400 really and it was relatively easy for all our guests to find places to stain their budgets.

I apologize in advance. I wasn’t going to comment since I’m not in general a big fan of DWs on principle but have to respond to this quote. A DW cannot be considered as a vacation for others, at least from your perspective.

A vacation is something guests plan for themselves at a time and place, place, budget and with travel companions of their choosing, that doesn’t require sacrifice of real vacation days. If someone is close to you they may very well sacrifice time off and money to attend your wedding because they love you and it’s your big day but they are the ones doing you the favor, not the other way around.
