Is anyone planning a destination wedding? If so, how are you planning on transporting your wedding dress?

I plan to carry mine on the plane and hope for the best! We are flying American so hoping they’ll let me hang my dress. Was going to go southwest but I don’t believe their planes have closets.

We arr doing a destination wedding to Montana. We are probably going to drive to destination even tho it's a 24 hr drive. Which isn't the fun part. But shipping decor is to expensive and I don't want to change of my dress getting lost.

Hi Ingrid!! Welcome to WeddingWire!! Smiley ring If you're planning on flying to your destination wedding, I highly recommend calling the airline you're flying with and asking them what they suggest. Some airlines don't have closets and if they do, they're for the pilot and flight attendants only. I've heard of people buying a seat for their dress, depending on how big it is, to make sure it's got space on the plane. If you bring it on, I think a lot of flights will just lay it across the luggage in the overhead compartment.

That was my thought as well. I haven't flown in years and didn't know that so much has changed with flights. My fiance and his son flew out of state and didn't sit together because they make you pay an additional fee to do so. We haven't purchased tickets yet because our wedding is next year but I'm so worried about my dress being damaged or messed up.

Thank you that's great advice, I will definitely do that once we purchase our tickets.

I've heard Montana is beautiful. I would love to drive there. And I definitely understand not wanting to ship it. I thought about it but I can't risk it getting lost. I'm totally in love with my dress.

My dress is pretty big and bulky. I was just planning on having my vacuumed down and then get it steamed upon arrival. We have about 7 hours worth of flights and one of the planes literally only seats 18 passengers, so not much space for a massive dress.

I didn't even think of that...great idea. We're flying from CA to Jamaica and my dress is pretty bulky as well. The resort does offer steaming as well.

Talk to your seamstress about it. When I bought my dress I discussed with the consultant that I would be travelling so she helped find one that would be easier to steam out after.

I see you have gotten some great advise, It can be carried as a hand luggage based on the airline which will give you peace of mind as everything can get damaged or lost but not the dress
