Destination Wedding woes!

Melisa, on March 4, 2022 at 9:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi all! My fiancé and I are leaning more towards an island destination wedding, however I’ve been super overwhelmed on where to even start. Anyone have any tips on where to begin the planning or have any recommendations on places to look at? Thanks!!

Totally get this!!!! My fiancé and I had talked about destination for years so when he actually popped the question we really had to narrow things down! Start by narrowing down your location choice. There are a LOT of islands in the world haha. Think about what vibe you want from the island as well as the people you want there and how far they would be willing to travel/how much they would be willing to spend to get there. Once you have the destination, you can think about venue vibes (relaxed, glam, beach, ballroom, church, etc) From there you can look at if you want to hire a planner or want to forge the way yourself. Planners are a must if there's a language barrier, and they can help you figure out absolutely everything. On the other hand, if there isn't too much of a language barrier you can choose to go your own way and just do what I did- a CRAP ton of research and then start to make the finer choices that way.

    Hello,

I’m doing a destination elopement with my fiancé. We are getting married in Santorini Greece. We first thought of a few places we would like to go. Then we started researching in wedding blogs. There you can find wedding planners and vendors and start reaching out. Hope this helps!

Congratulations! Most people hire a local wedding planner, ( and you definitely should if you have the budget) but i’m planning it myself and can share the steps I took.

Start by choosing an island (or a few) and googling wedding venues on those islands. Check on images to find setups/locations you like. Check venue websites to see if they offer any wedding packages. Send an email to the venues to request brochures, pricing, minimum guests ect. Ask the venue if they include wedding planning services. If they do, then you’re all set because they will guide you through the process and book all the vendors for you. But if your venue doesn’t & you’re picky like me, start googling photographers, videographers, florists ect. in the area. Ask the venue to send you their vendor list. Look through their portfolios and send emails to inquire about pricing & availability. It also helps to check your venue’s instagram to browse photos of events they have hosted before. More than likely they will have images from past events that involved a planner and will have all the vendors they used in the description. This is how i ended up finding vendors i really wanted. After i settled on vendors, i matched their available dates with the venue. Some people mentioned a language barrier being in issue which wasn’t a problem for me since i chose a greek island and most greek island natives speak great english. I think i may have dodged a bullet there. Good luck!!

We just chose Riu Palace Costa Mujeres! The wedding packages are phenomenal and the all-inclusive pricing for our guests is very reasonable.
