Destination Wedding - Skipping the Rehearsal Dinner. Yay or nay?

Karolyn, on October 25, 2023 at 11:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

We're having a destination wedding on a Friday. While we expect mostly everyone to show up Thursday, I was wondering if it's in bad taste to skip the rehearsal dinner. We're approaching the max of our budget and everything we are finding is $2500+ for rehearsal dinner.

1. Is it rude not to host a rehearsal dinner for our wedding party, especially since people are traveling for us?

2. Any cheaper ideas in lieu of a rehearsal dinner?

Thanks!

How would you feel about something really informal— pizza, salad, dessert, soda, beer….? Rehearsal dinners are optional, but I think that since you are having a destination wedding, some guests might feel slighted if you don’t have one at all. Pizza would be my solution if my budget was near its max.

This is what I plan on doing. We have a sort of local destination wedding (at a campground) with a lot of out of state family and friends coming and I chatted with the venue manager about this exact topic. We’re considering chic fil a catering or just doing pizza/group sandwiches something similar and very informal
