Destination wedding resort selection

Kait, on January 27, 2020 at 9:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

We are struggling to decide what resort to pick for our destination wedding. If you had a destination wedding, I would love to hear what you thought about your resort and the planning process. These are our top “wish list” items while narrowing down our resort.

·

· Private ceremony location (I don’t want a random speedo man ending up in pictures)

· High quality resort but still a reasonable price for guests

· Somewhere people could easily fly into without having to travel far from the airport

· Somewhere people could come for a short or long trip

· Pool(s) with swim-up bar (pools right out of your room is a bonus but not necessity)

Great beach

The biggest thing for me was price and communication. So many resorts either never responded or came back with a crazy food minimum. Our guests list cannot exceed 29 people so some of the resorts requirements seemed downright ridiculous. The place we landed on response to emails within 24 hours, sends vendor lists, coordinates with my DOC, florist, photographer and more. They gave me the confidence that this would be a location that caters to intimate weddings. The other places made me feel belittled for not wanting a 10k food minimum. Many didn't seem willing to budge even when suggesting a semi private room or patio. That is how I knew they were not for me!

We chose Sandals Resorts, they have them throughout the Caribbean and have a lot of perks. It's an all inclusive resort so all food, alcohol and water sports are included. We started planning 2.5 years ago to give everyone time to budget if they wanted to attend, we offered3, 4, and 5 day options. We're staying 7 days so our wedding is free which also has a lot of inclusions. Check out their website and see if it works for you.
