Destination Wedding Reception Nightmare

Barbara, on February 10, 2020 at 2:19 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

My Fiance and I are planning our Portland Oregon wedding. We already have the venue booked but we are having the hardest time trying to find a place to hold a seated dinner after. We are expecting a max of 20 people but realistically probably closer to 10-15. We want to reserve a restaurant that is elevated but still delicious. Most of the places we have tried are either booked or require $4000 food and beverage minimums which is ridiculous for the number of people we want to feed. Does anyone have experience with small dinner only receptions that arent held in a wedding venue?

We're getting married in Florida and have about 19 guests. The place we're doing the reception actually put our reservation down as an event instead of a wedding. This avoided the huge wedding minimums and gave us some more flexibility with menus and pricing.

Maybe try calling some venues and asking about reserving for a dinner rather than specifying it's for a wedding and see if that helps.

Thanks so much! I am going to do that today. I was worried about them possibly canceling our event or charging us more once we all arrived in wedding attire because we weren't "honest" about the nature of the event.

I'm getting married in Santa Barbara and wanted the exact same thing as you (we have a few more people 30-40). I checked what felt like EVERY restaurant area and many had great options without insane minimums. We ended up finding a restaurant only charged a $300 opening fee, in addition to the food, to do our lunch reception (they are normally closed for lunch so we get the whole place to ourselves!) Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find something!

This is a very pretty veil, Mia. I would also advise you to check out Etsy for something similar. You may even find something exactly like this!
