Destination wedding planning

Kiyome, on February 28, 2022 at 3:08 PM Posted in Planning 1 5

Hey everyone. I just wanted to vent. I am super frustrated right now. We are just trying to make the decision of moving forward with wedding planning. We have been engaged for 3 1/2 years. Originally we were just going to have a wedding in our home state. Then before we booked stuff, we were thinking maybe an elopement in Ireland would suit us. Then we were thinking a micro wedding in Vermont. Well for the past year and a half we finally decided on a small wedding in Jamaica (up to 40 guests total). We have put deposits down on our photographer, videographer, hair and makeup, wedding planner, and our venue which is a private villa. We also have booked our flights (which are fully refundable) We have been so excited, but then the Omicron variant emerged and now there are talks of WW3 and I'm just so sad that I just want to elope. Just my fiance and I and no one else. I am worried to keep putting down deposits and just waiting for our wedding to come around is frustrating. I just want to be married at this point! Haha. We've been together for 9 years (our wedding day will be 10 years on the day we started dating) and I'm getting antsy and impatient at this point.

Have you thought of the two of you eloping and still having the destination wedding for the date you have planned?. We have discussed that especially with everything going on. One then we don't need to worry about getting out marriage license there and researching all the rules and procedures our destination has. As well as the fact I have waited so long to marry him if something like another war was a break out, hopefully not I will still be his wife. It would be out secret, our own special thing.

When is your wedding date, if you don't mind me asking?

Yes. We have thought about that. Especially because that's what I wanted to do in the first place. Our plan was to have a civil ceremony at the courthouse in our hometown and then have a symbolic ceremony with my two best friends and our immediate family in Jamaica. The problem is that with possible war, we just want to elope right now and our family members know about our plans to get married this year and where we are getting married. My mom has booked her flight because we have involved her in the wedding planning. And I'm sure she would be understanding, but we just don't know what to do at this point.

And our wedding date is on December 10. (For some reason my first response wasn't replying to yours. I responded in a separate comment)

We only live once why not do both. Have the ceremony for you two as soon as you both want. Keep the plans to do the other wedding with everyone else. It will be something else to look forward to as current events continue and whatever else may come out way. Then worse comes to worse you were married if something was ever to happen. The best case you got two weddings and one hell of a vacation spot!

No matter what though it is what you both choose to do in the end. I hope it all works out well!

Your wedding plan is fun and sound like my dream wedding!

I think there is no harm in eloping and also having the Jamaica trip.
