Destination Wedding Planning Help

Crystal, on August 9, 2019 at 11:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 2
Sooo my basic package includes food, bar, venue. I keep struggling with the idea of spending for the convenience or trying to diy to save some $. However, when I think of diy, I think about the struggle my fiancé and I are going to have transporting this all over to our destination and the hassle of having to pick everything up at the end of the night. On the flip side, to have the resort take care of it all will add an additional 4k. I am matching my parents for the wedding contributions. A part of me is feeling guilty about my parents contributions and I feel like I should try to minimize costs, but on the other hand its my wedding, my family generously offered their support with no limitations, and I keep feeling that money comes and goes so why not make it everything I want? However, the notion about being naive and overspending when I should be practical keeps coming to mind as I want to pay off my student debt... I just can't decide! This goes for my decor: diy or just rent? Invitations: make my own or just order from Etsy? Place cards: same deal.... Can I have some opinions? What is your setup like? I know to each their own, but I'm just curious if I am the only one that's back and forth.

Think about whether you can just skip some of the stuff you're thinking about DIYing or renting. I mean, a resort has to look nice for its guests all the time; does it really need more decorations?

Same with placecards; how about just having a blackboard that shows where people should sit, instead of individual cards?

As for invitations, have you looked at Vistaprint? They have some very economical ones.

Hey Crystal! Congratulations on your engagement!

It’s so generous for your parents to help you and your SO with your wedding costs. Have you all sat down together to discuss how much exactly everyone is comfortable spending? I know you mentioned that they have put ‘no limitations’ on their support but it really is a good idea to know where you stand. Even if they mention again that there is no limit to their contribution, have you thought about how much you can afford to spend on your wedding, since you are splitting the costs 50:50?

There are definitely some cost-effective ways to plan for your wedding. Do you know what type of decor you want for your venue? You could look into sourcing material and then you will be able to make a decision if you would like to DIY it or if it is actually more cost-effective to rent it.

Where did you decide to have your destination wedding?
