Destination wedding paperwork help

Almost Dr. A, on August 21, 2020 at 12:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
We're getting married in Jamaica in April, but they are asking us for notarized copies of our photo IDs, but those are illegal to copy in our state (WI). I reached out to our wedding planner, but I'm wondering how others have gotten around this issue?

Thanks

Contact the local marriage license office where you live and get advice on how to proceed.

They just told us it was illegal to copy that and talk to the person we're in contact with in Jamaica.

Have you asked a local notary? It's illegal in most states to replicate or reproduce a license, but you can take notarized photo copies for legal purposes! I'd ask a notary if they can help you!

I asked a notary and they said no... I could ask another one? I'm not sure notary rules work.

Notaries are all the same (there is a legal process to become a notary). So, if one says no... they will all say no.

I feel like there's been a miscommunication, so I'd bug your wedding planner.

That sounds odd... employers, doctors offices, and lenders make copies of IDs all the time. Making an identical copy (eg, making it look like a license) is illegal, but not making a photocopy or taking a picture. I think there's a miscommunication somewhere.

Either way, try using your passport instead of your license. It's recommended that you have copies of your passport when you travel anyway in case something happens to your actual passport and you need to contact the embassy.

Thank you! I'll try that. I was able to get a form from the wedding coordinator for the notary, so I'm going this helps.

I'm also getting married in Jamaica. I'm kinda surprised to hear this. No one from our resort has asked us for that, however they did ask us for our passports number. I'm interested in how this turns out for you. Keep us posted
