Destination Wedding Invitations

Hi all! We are getting married 24 hours away by flight in June of 2022! We were wondering when we should send out our actual invitations and how long we should give our guests to RSVP? We must have a final headcount two months before the wedding (April 2022) for payment but we also need the headcount ASAP in order to block enough rooms at the resort. In Bali blocking rooms isn't really a common practice so I literally have to sign a contract that my guests will be booking x amount of rooms at their hotel or else we have to pay an expensive penalty fee. This being said, we wanted to mail out invitations in mid October 2021 and ask for them to RSVP back by 1/1/2022. I'm worried that if I wait after January 2022, there won't be enough rooms to block (as the resort has stated to me already). Do you feel like this is an adequate amount of time or is this too early? If too early, what do you recommend us doing about the headcount? Greatly appreciate your input!

This sounds like it would be better to have conversations with people as soon as you can, and not rely so much on invitations. For lots of people a trip to Bali is a “once in a life time” even and they will want to look at finances, vacation time, childcare, that sort of thing even more in advance than the typical wedding.

Noted! Yes, that's exactly how I feel too! I definitely think an advanced amount of notice is necessary in our case! I was googling when the best time to send invitations are and people were recommending a couple of weeks before and I'm just thinking, that will not work for us!

We’ve got two people coming from Canada and they already know, even though it’s not till Oct 22.

I think your timeline sounds pretty good. Maybe push your RSVP to mid January because people get busy around Christmas and New Years and most likely will forget about RSVPs during that time.

Like Samantha mentioned, this is probably a once in a lifetime trip for many, and they will appreciate having lots of time to budget and plan. I think the most important thing is that you send Save the Date announcements early, like in the next couple of months, if you haven't already. You didn't mention it so I just wanted to bring it up. Standard timeframe for STDs is 10-12 months before your wedding, but for a DW, especially one that far, I personally think 14-15 months out is a good idea. That way people can start planning now, and the January RSVP date won't catch them by surprise.

I agree. This is a special case where a regular timeline would not apply.
