Destination Wedding Excursion Invitations

Jillian, on January 28, 2016 at 2:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Help! We are having a destination wedding and sent out STDs a long time ago. We are struggling with when to send the invitations because we are inviting everyone to join us on our catamaran excursion if they want to (as an insert to the formal invitation) and want to give everyone plenty of time to book that if they wish before it fills up with other resort guests. Anyone have suggestions on the timeframe? I don't want it to be suuuuuper early, but don't want it to be too late for the excursion booking either. Kind of unconventional, but we thought it was a fun gesture and a catamaran party sounds fun!

Is the excursion a public event? Are you paying for it? Is it an overnight type thing?

Anyone that is at the resort can book the excursion. We are paying for our wedding party to come, but a lot of our other guests have asked us what excursions we plan on doing (with the intention to pay for it themselves) so we basically thought we would just announce it formally with the invitations. It's not overnight, but the one we chose is a full day.

I just put any extra optional events on our website and spread the word via word of mouth to people i thought would be interested. If you're not paying, dont put it on the invites. How far in advance do they need to book it?

We're booking for the wedding party within the next 2 weeks and the wedding is in July. But we've heard anything from "book excursions as soon as you know" to 3 months out to when you show up at the resort. Our travel agent seemed to have the idea that the sooner the better, but it wasn't like a hard and fast rule. Our concern is just that it will fill up quick because the particular one we chose only runs 3 days a week. We do have a website though, and I totally didn't think about that option so thank you!

I would make sure to word it so that guests know they will be paying for it : "If you would like to join us on a full day catamaran excursion, please contact X by X date." As a guest, I would not expect to have the bridal couple pay for any of my excursions but if the information was an insert in my invite without explanation, I would assume the couple was paying. Because it's a DW, I would send the invites out at least 3-4 weeks earlier than normal.

    Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!

edited : just read last 2 posts ... having the info on your wedding website would be even better than including it in our invites.

Hi Jillian, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters. Also, you'll get more responses with a different picture, because the default icons can be associated with spammers/trolls Smiley smile You can do this on desktop or a mobile browser (just not on the app) under My Settings and Profile and Privacy Settings.

I like the suggestions by pps to put it on the wedding website and spread the info by word of mouth!

I literally just sent my Excursions email to all my guests this morning. Our invitations were sent out back in August though and that was only because final deposits for our group pricing was due the end of October and we wanted to give everyone time for deposits. Final payments are due at the end of March so we figured this also gives them some time to plan and choose what they would like to do so if the decide they want to come (completely optional) they can book at the same time as final payments.

ETA: One of our excursions is the Catamaran as well Smiley winking
