Destination Wedding Aus to nyc

Kandice, on July 4, 2019 at 10:35 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 9
Just got engaged!!! Yayyy!!
Now starting to plan our big day.
My partner and I really want to get married in NYC but we aren’t made of money. I don’t want to give to some of the traditions (ceremony, first dance, music etc) but want to make it simple.
Any out there have any suggestions or tips?
Thanks in advance

Congratulations! Definitely budget planning first before looking at prices. Then price comparing all over the area you want to get married in. There are so many different types of venues (all inclusive ect) sometimes it may be cheaper to go the all inclusive route other times it will be cheaper to do ceremony and reception in separate locations.

Figure out how much you’re willing to spend then figure out how many people you want there. From that point you should be able to eliminate places and also find out what you really want. My Kitchen in Queens was a nice little place.

Are you eloping? Or maybe a super-small DW? NYC is one of the most expensive places in the US for a wedding and to travel.

If everyone is traveling, ask venues for their off-season rates. And have a non-Saturday night wedding which should save you some money. 👍

    Congratulations on your engagement Kandice!!

As the pps mentioned, you should definitely map out a budget for your wedding first. Knowing exactly how much you can spend will really help you keep on track.

Are you planning on eloping with just the two of you or are you thinking of having a destination wedding?

Thanks Sinead. budget is definitely set, we just have to make it work.
We want a destination wedding but will still be selective on the invites.
My fiancés family are in the UK so we thought we’d make it neutral ground and picked a place we adore!

Budget is set based on our saving capacity. It’s not an elopement as we’ve got family is Aus and the UK we’re picking neutral ground and inviting only our nearest and dearest. I estimate 40 (22 of them are family).

That's such a wonderful idea!! Will you honeymoon in NYC also or do you think you will travel elsewhere? 😃

I would love to see South America. And i figure why not we’re so close. But i don’t think my fiancé is keen on that really. It definitely worthwhile us leaving straight from there.

Don't look in just Manhattan! It's going to be the most expensive and if you would like to save, consider Queens or Staten Island. Being from New York, I think Staten Island is super cute. There's great photo opportunities to be had on the (free) ferry between Manhattan and Staten Island with the skyline of downtown in the background.

There's a lovely place called Snug Harbor that does private events and has an expansive garden to take pictures in. Only issue would be weather related as almost the entire place is outdoors.
