Destination Wedding and Honeymoon

Brittany, on May 13, 2019 at 2:44 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 19
Hey lovelies! My fiancé and I are having a destination wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I’m torn because I’m not sure if my destination is supposed to serve as my honeymoon as well and we just stay behind a week after everyone leaves from the ceremony. What would you guys do in this situation?

Every destination wedding we’ve been invited to (only attended one) the couple honeymooned at the same resort the wedding was at. I wouldn’t assume your guests will leave the day after the wedding though. The DW we attended most guests stayed the same length of time the couple getting married did.

I think it's up to you and your budget! I totally think staying longer after guests have left or going early could serve as a honeymoon.

I was thinking the same thing, just wanted to make sure it made sense to someone other than me. Thank you!

I think it's up to you. I personally would stay longer to serve as my honeymoon or I would even consider going to another resort in the area after the wedding for the honeymoon. I know my family tends to make destination weddings into a vacation for themselves so a lot of them would also be likely to stay at the hotel the wedding is at for a few days and I am not trying to honeymoon with my family lol so I would consider just going to a different resort after the wedding if it were me.

We are having a destination wedding and will be staying in the same area afterwards. We did not really talk about going anywhere else, but I do not like to fly and we have a dog who will be travelling with us. Since we are also bringing a lot of stuff, it is just easier for us to stay in that area. We really like the area. We may do something else later on down the road.

Most of our guests are not staying past the wedding though and we are getting married the weekend before July 4th.

I think it is totally up to you guys and what you want to do! A second spot can be fun!

My best friend got married in Costa Rica last March. They stayed a week after everyone left up in the mountains (vs on the beach where the wedding was), They used it as their "mini moon" since they were already there but will be doing a 15 day trip to Europe in September of this year as their "real honeymoon". I personally think you could do either or both.

It’s up to you. We had a DW and stayed Wednesday- Wednesday. Most of our guests arrived Thursday and stayed until Sunday or Monday. I wish we would have stayed a bit longer though.

Most destinations I’ve heard of also have there honey moon there and most guest stay as well just because they have most the time had to spend a lot of money to get there

I considered a DW. Among a few other factors, this was 1 of the main reason we decided against it! We love everyone we are inviting, but we wanted the honeymoon to just be the two of us!

To OP, that seems to be what most people do. However, you can always do what you want! Whether it's stay at the same resort, move to a different hotel in the same area, or go somewhere else entirely.

You can stay after at the same place or go somewhere else! I know someone that had a DW in Iceland, then, honeymooned in Africa!

Think it's totally up to you and your budget cost!! I would stay longer after guests leave. It would be smart to stay and have it as a honeymoon.

My hubby originally wanted to leave for a European honeymoon from our DW in Napa. Thankfully, due to budget Europe was out. We were exhausted after our wedding and with such a great resort deal for our wedding, it was heavenly to crash there for 4 nights after our wedding (we arrived 2 days before).

You’ll spend time & money getting to PR for your wedding, enjoy it and at least mini-moon there! Most guests will leave the day after your wedding and for anyone who stays, you’re not obligated to spend your honeymoon with them.

I’m also getting married in Puerto Rico. We decided to stay the first two nights after the wedding in San Juan area to hang with whoever is around. Then the rest of the trip we are going to the other side of the island as our mini-moon. We plan to go to Greece the following year as our honeymoon.

I think this is a good idea! You won't have to waste a chunk of your honeymoon traveling to another destination and can start the relaxation right away Smiley smile
