Destination wedding after party?!

Lauren, on September 23, 2019 at 2:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
My fiancé and I started planning a traditional wedding but it’s not for us. We’re having an intimate ceremony in Savannah with immediate family and a couple friends.

When it comes to the after party, I want this to be an informal affair, but I’ve read about having a “second ceremony” at the reception to include everyone who couldn’t be at the main event. What are your thoughts on this?

Honestly, I would skip it. People already know this is not your actual wedding. Why have a mock ceremony?

We are having a legal ceremony that is more traditional by a minister with just our sons in attendance. We will follow that with a handfasting ceremony with our friends and family. We let people know that we will be legally married but are performing a ceremony to represent our union in a tradition I follow. I don't think they are necessary if you're not into it though. Maybe put up some of the pictures from your ceremony and enjoy the party.

I would just have a large reception and skip the ceremony.

I agree with PPs that I'd skip the ceremony part and focus only on the reception!

We had a local reception and skipped the ceremony! Much more time for mingling, drinking, eating & dancing.

I personally think it's weird a rude to invite a bunch of people to a party to celebrate an event they weren't invited to.
