Destination Wedding Advice

Allie, on October 24, 2019 at 4:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hi there!

This is my first time posting, so thanks in advance for your help!

My fiance and I have been best friends for many years. I'm in the US and met him while I was nannying in the UK as a teenager, and we've been best friends ever since. Romantically, we were both always with someone else (I even got married, then divorced) before we finally came together. Now, life is right ♡

We are planning a quiet, intimate ceremony in England in December for just us and our parents (semi-elope I suppose). Ceremony at the historic town center, pictures at a castle then dinner at a nice pub.

This is my second marriage and my first wedding was massive and beautiful, but I'm thrilled about toning it right down this time. I don't want my fiance to feel jipped out of an experience though, so here I am asking for help Smiley smile

Any suggestions on how to make a super small and quiet wedding something really special for him? Like above and beyond normal plans?

Any suggestions on destination weddings in general?

Thanks!
A

As far as making it extra special for him since it’s his first wedding I would ask him what he would like. Honestly he may not want anything super crazy. I just got married for the second time and it was my husbands first and he had a few things he really wanted and the rest he didn’t really care about. I did a few extra things that he didn’t know about to make him feel special but nothing over the top. Find of what’s most important to him. Going to England for a small ceremony with family sounds lovely and not too stressful. Good luck to you both.

Cyndy has really great advice. I would just involve him in wedding planning as much as possible so he feels like it's really personalized to the two of you.

I think a cool venue (one he loves) would be dreamy. A pub, brewery, auto or airplane museum, aquarium, tree house, yacht, haunted inn or B&B, etc.

Ask him what would make it special for him. Make sure that he's ok with an elopement and he doesn't want a big wedding. We don't know him so no one here can really answer that. You could always ask him what he's imagining and start searching from there.

Another thing you can do to personalize it is check out Etsy. They sell all kinds of cute personalized things. I've found a lot of stuff I never even thought of. So many ideas!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Allie!

I know you are having an intimate wedding, but have you thought about hiring a professional photographer? This way, you will be able to display your wedding photos in your home and have special memories of your day. I think it would really mean a lot to you both to have them.

Will you be wearing a special bridal outfit? Getting dressed up for the event will also make it stand out as a super special occasion!
