Decor ideas

So our venue is the backyard of a lake house and the view of the lake is pretty but there’s no trees or anything to assist with decorations. Suggestions on budget friendly ways to make it look like a wedding and not a backyard bbq? I really love the twinkle light ceilings/walls but not sure how to do that without a tent or trees? The house is tall enough and the time of day will allow that the backyard is shaded most of the evening so I’m leaning towards saving myself $3000 and opting no tent. Thoughts? Decor ideas 1

Can you wrap twinkle lights around the railing and tack them to the bottom edge of the desk?

If your venue allows staking you could potentially erect some tall stakes that you can attach lighting to from select areas?

I agree with this idea! Efavormart & Oriental trading also sells arches or columns that you could add

I think some drapery on the railings and porch or a wedding arch would be lovely. Sure you can rent the arch.

I'd be nervous about not renting a tent unless there's a ton of great indoor space or you know you're able to borrow tents in an emergency. Ignoring that...
Flowers are really helpful in terms of making things feel weddingy. We had an arch and table centerpieces, which really made it feel more formal and less backyard-ish. I think wrapping twinkle lights around the deck railing and posts would work well in your space. We had an extra set, so I wrapped one around the base of the bar floral arrangement, which was nice because you could kind of still see it after the sun went down. (We had real lights on outside the house, but the twinkle lights still helped.)
Also, linen tablecloths and napkins go a long way.

Use what you have! White Christmas lights are very elegant but homey. Amazon sells tiny twinkly lights by the dozen for a few bucks. Find some glass jars, old candles, etc and place the lights inside the jars and around the venue. Pretty chiffon drapery adds a lot to the space as well. I’d check out a craft store and maybe make your own garland or hanging arrangements to place on the railing. There’s endless possibilities!
Good luck on your decor. I’m sure whatever you do, it’ll be beautiful.

Looks like a beautiful venue for sure! In terms of a tent it's so hard to judge because it's impossible to know what the weather will be. But here's a few ideas for different ways you may be able to decorate. I hope these give you some inspiration! I think an arch of some sort or tall vases would make a great alter decoration.
